I just recently got a Canon Digital Rebel XSi 12.2 MP Digital SLR and yesterday my telescope came (Meade LXD75 SN-10AT). It's a monster! :O

Here's a picture I took

Now, to learn how to track the stars to take some bad-ass pictures

Very nice.
There are several AHer's that are into photographing the stars. Maybe some will chime in with pointers for you.

I used to be into it until that pesky restraining order was filed against me. :furious

Great photo sir.......For the life of me i cant remember the AHer that took the amazing photos of Jupiter, anyone remember who that was? He would be the gent to ask.....His photos were amazing ( like yours )
EDIT: Scratch that It was AKWabbit, i tried the link he posted in thread, came back not available.

thats bad ass! whats the res of the pic?

Check out the planet Jupiter. This is the closest approach to Earth since 1963.. Can't miss it......biggest planet in the sky
right after sunset to the east. You should be able to see lots of Jupiter's moons too. The Meade can find it automatically
anyway.
:salute

Holy Cow, that is nice! Just keep it looking at the stars Mister!

Jack,
Nicely done.
If you are into planetary/Lunar photography, you ought to explore the possibilities of a modified webcam and a program called Registax. Search this forums for a couple of discussions of the possibilities.

check out jupiter by the moon
ment to be epic...
uranus is in line with it too i think...
(cue corny jokes)
I have star walk app on iphone wich is quite cool

Yup, Uranus is just starting to move away from Jupiter but the moon is a bit close to have good low light pollution.
I started to do stellar photography not very long ago and only done 2 observations on a simple tripod with the same Camera that you have (Canon Rebel Xsi SRL D450). These pics are not very good as I have very bad light pollution in my area and I was using a 300mm lens and photoshop to stack my images. (I have Registax and DeepSkyStacker but I can't get to make all CR2 pics line up automatically)
The sky is not very rich in planets this time of the year, but its good enough to start learning the sky. Very fun to do
Anyway, here is my first ever exposure (this one is Altair) and I got lucky enough to catch a moving object.

Same star, only max zoom.
Here is Andromeda (M31) with 10 stacks of 6seconds. Dang this thing is big!
And Jupiter with its moons (out of a few dozen), only one shot, had set up the exposure too long to see the colors. The moon Io was actually right in front of Jupiter at the time this was taken (2010-07-31)

Thanks for the pointers guys  :salute
Here is a 30 second exposure from outside my window.
It show the constellation Cassiopeia and the really faint smudge to the right of that is M31 (Andromeda Galaxy)

The same picture but edited a little bit.
