What an amazing discovery. History can indeed come back to life!

The plan is to raise her up and make her all pretty again :)
Enjoy

Makes me wonder how many more things that will be discovered in that water. After the bloody history on, over and even under it, many more are just waiting to be found. Nice find though yeager :salute

I truly hope that they are able to restore that plane to a flyable state. Likely wishful thinking on my part, but it would a site to see a Do-17 flying again.

Where the heck have you been?

In commemoration of the finding and the future rising, and hopeful take off of the Do 17, I think HTC should get their hands dirty working on the Do 17 (or He111) to add to the plane set. ;)

Never gonna happen. The hope, is there is enough intact for a static restoration for the RAF Museum. Keep in mind the sonar picture looks a lot nicer then the plane actually is having been in the Channel for all those years.
Any birds that have come out of the Channel or other salt water have generally been in very bad shape.
I do hope this is an exception but I wouldn't hold my breath on that.

On the other hand I've seen some stuff pulled out of the ocean that has stayed relatively preserved. But, while they don't say the depth of the airplane in the article I assume it's sitting fairly shallow since not only are sport divers looting it, but the article says "made a forced landing in an area of the English Channel called Goodwin Sands at low tide" Getting sandblasted by the tides and currents for decades will definitely not help its condition.

Excellent story and an awesome find. Heck the sonar picture alone gives me the shivers. Will be interesting to see her restored for display. :aok
