the last few days i've been flying i notice all the sounds are messed up. Its like the wav files are being played in fast forward. It happens in other games too, even the gun sounds sound high pitched and when i hear voices they sound like chipmunks.
any ideas?

This probably isnt the cause, but I guess it could be a place to start looking.
Some sound cards come with extra software that lets you alter all the sounds that it generates. One of them is a chipmunk style filter that sounds similar to what you might be hearing. Try looking in all of your audio software for any settings that might allow you to apply filters of this nature.
