Title: Weird issue…any Ideas?
Post by: Heater on September 26, 2010, 06:08:24 AM
Here is the deal
When I cold boot the system the OS (Win7 64 Bit) shows 12 GB of memory but only 8 GB is usable...
4 GB reserved for Hardware (BIOS shows 12 GB)
However if I reboot the system, then the OS shows 12 GB of memory and 9 MB is reserved for hardware…
Did a Google search and it looks like a lot of others are seeing the same thing…
tried the diffrent suggestions etc... but still seeing the same thing... but only on the cold boot...
system is not over clocked and run's stable.

System specs :
X58 SLI Classified
I7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
12 GB OCZ3RPR1866C9LV2G
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280

8 Gb's is way more than you'll ever use so it's not a big issue in reality.

Yes and NO...
for Normal use this is true....
However I run 3@4 Virtual Linux machines on this system (work related) so the memory is in fact used...

Wurzel...

That is what I thought @ first... but disabled Virtualization in Bios and the VM ware process etc... and still have the same thing....Talking to Microsoft OS engineering about it and it appears to be coming from the way the kernel handles the memory addresses when it first boots... they are looking @ how to resolve it... but the do not have a fix yet!
