pretty cool.

wouldn't be surprised if the navy tries to step in and claim ownership though.

You think that the Navy would do that?  I mean, it kind of obsolete to the F/A-18 Hornet.

i only say that, because i seem to recall reading about someone recovering a tbm or a corsair from a swamp somewhere down south. they did a lot of work to get it out of there, and then suddenly the navy was down their throats claiming it as theirs.......

i'd prefer to be wrong though.

I'm curious what the history is with that particular aircraft, some of the components inside the cockpit seem so corroded that it makes me wonder if it was a wreck recovered from the bottom of some lake.

Asking price is only $100K? I have feeling it will be sold for  very much more. But man, that is a great find. I would sell my mom, sister, and aunt to buy broken down 51D and restore it  :devil

I did a quick google search and found this
http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org12-7f.htm (http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org12-7f.htm)

I think the crux of the matter will be how the F4F got to the barn in the first place.  If I'm reading it right it sounds like the Navy does not relinquish their claim of ownership by default of time or condition, ie it's theirs till they say otherwise regardless of what condition it's in.

I believe that the person that found it won that court case, and its his now, not sure of the progress of the resto on it though ( it was a Corsair that he found ).

Well, off to go and snoop in some barn's  :D

Would be interesting to find out if this plane ever served in the war, or was only a stateside ride.

Could it not have been sold as surplus?
