Segway company owner dies riding two-wheeled machine off cliff
Jimi Heselden, the owner of the Segway company, has died after riding one of the two-wheeled machines off a cliff and into a river.......
.....The multi-millionaire businessman, 62, fell into the River Wharfe while inspecting the grounds of his North Yorkshire estate on a rugged country version of the Segway. ....
......A passer-by found Heselden alongside his Segway in the Boston Spa area at about 11.40am on Sunday.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said today: "Police were called at 11.40am yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above.
"A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
"At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious."....
.....Heselden was worth £166m and ranked 395th on the Sunday Times Rich List.....

am I the only person that's read that article that thinks it might have been self induced?

Are you some kind of creative writers or something? You sure know how to pick out the errors in people's grammar and spelling.

I see. Well, i guess the best thing to say, "I am only human, that is why pencils have erasers".

I didn't do it!!! :rock

Yea, that's ironic.
It doesn't help the company's case for permitting segways access to pedestrian routes either. If the owner of the company was killed because he couldn't control his own segway, think of how many people might get hurt/killed in the *next* accident.

This is an as5umption (really HTC?) based on no evidence.

This is a sweetieumption based on no evidence.
Yea, it is an a5sumption. It still doesn't help the company's position that these things are safe.
If he was murdered, tossed off the cliff, and then his off-road segway was placed at the bottom of the cliff next to a path he was known to travel, then it was either the smartest or dumbest murderer evar :)

And now I salute Mister Heselden for helping our Wounded Warriors.

Owner of Segway Donates 1,000 Segways for Wounded Warriors Before His Death
America’s wounded warriors lost an advocate last week when the British philanthropist and Segway tycoon Jimi Heselden died in a freak accident while riding one of his vehicles. Before his death, Heselden donated 1,000 Segways, a gift valued at more than $5 million, to the Segs4Vets program that provides the mobility devices to American service members who are disabled by injuries during combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.......

hopefully the current owners honor his memory with the continuation of this

The Segway is a failed attempt at human transportation...period
God bless this guy and his family...but the sooner the Segway disappears from modern culture the better...
I am astounded this contraption, its company and manufacturing capacity have endured as long as they have...
Other than wing nut "Green" communities who buy these for their meter maids so they can run down pedestrians on a side walk...who is buy this piece of junk?

At least they have goggles, kneepads, elbow pads and helmets on...I think I would die laughing if I saw a "crack" hostage rescue team riding those things into the scene. They would never have to fire a shot.

I want to see them take a shot from their Segways. :bolt:

I know this is kind of an old story, but I just realized this guys name is Peter Pans...
Maybe it's too soon to make jokes, but start thinking of them when the time is right.

He bought the company Dec 09.
Maybe he was just exploring his property and went the wrong way or heart attacked and slumped forward on the thing.
Have a look!

Segways are fun but I would not buy one. My younger brother bought three about a year back. They used them alot at first but now they sit in the back of the shop at his house most of the time.
