Title: Now for my next trick
Post by: captain1ma on September 29, 2010, 08:46:48 AM
ok guys, i was thinking again..........

next setup/AVA challenge

larger map, only 1 base available to take off from for allies
Allies: all bombers available. P51s, p47, p38's for escorts
Axis: 109's, 110's 190's, 262's at a back base.

Target 1 axis Base or town. 1 allied base with spawn to take it. one axis base nearby to defend it!

axis airbase nearby, if not next to the town.

objective-
Allies:  bombers are only allowed to bomb the town! if you hit base, i will reset all objects at base!
fighters are allowed to defend bombers and attack Axis airbase
take the town, capture base

Axis: hold off attack save town and base!

this would be a 1 hour event with side switching and then restart for another hour.

please give your thoughts on this idea!

I like the concept.  Just hope the group sticks around to give both attacking and defending a go.

How about TA-152s instead of the jets?
Title: Re: Now for my next trick
Post by: captain1ma on September 29, 2010, 01:00:35 PM
how about both!

Jets!  Did someone say jets? The only problem I can see is, will anyone want to fly allies.........unless jets are enabled for allies also.   :bolt:

well, im not sure how it will play out, when i finish, i might just leave them out. the idea is to get people to use heavy bombers and try to take the town. the other side should be defending.

besides ill probably have another jet week sometime right before christmas.

this may be a good excuse to learn the manual calibration.

:O Please not the jets on this one...it's a good idea with a turd in it.

I think i have to agree. i think they may just drag griefers in..........but if they are used, and i make it, i'll still find a way to have fun./

realistically, they were used, albeit rarely, at the end of the war. if they are used they will be at back bases. right now, im still planning the setup.

:O Please not the jets on this one...it's a good idea with a turd in it.

the last time i used jets, it was nothing less then a blast. try to keep an open mind. maybe they shouldn't be mixed, but we do have them on occasion. that's what makes this arena fun.

I concur with Puma.

Jets are cool, but who wants to be on the receiving end of picks all night?

Plus, for me, the appeal of the AvA is that it is not filled with uber planes.  Then again, maybe uber planes will get more people into the arena.

Still, thumbs down on too many LW birds.

262's aren't much of a match when you have 3 b17s and know how to use them

Consider no enemy icons.

i'd like to think that in here, the 262 drivers won't be doing much picking.

from what i've seen with the advancement of this arena, possibly we should listen to the guy that revived it, and see what happens. i mean, what's the worst that can happen?

on that note, we could consider no icons whatsoever for that night, and kill shooter off.....so now if they ARE going to try n pick, they stand a good chance of shooting down a friendly.

 i'm a biach, ain't i? :devil

I like how you're thinking, CAP.  It would be like, like......the real world, and real air combat, don't screw up or it's your buddy's backside :x (or bacon for some of our worthy opponents).   :salute

pretty much. i was gonna pay the neighbors kid to stand behind me, watching the fight. whenever he saw a hit scored, he'd have to rattle my chaitr, and shake the monitor. if it looked like pilot took hits, he'd have to whack me in the back of the head a few times.
 :devil

seriously......yea. picking would then become hard, as they'd be right on top of the fight, before they could tell who was friend or foe.....and at that point, their element of surprise is gone.

personally, i think it'd drive me batty trying to figure out who was friend or foe with no icons at all......but it'd be a blast getting there.  :D

It could get awfully lonely picking and vulching with KS off.. just sayin *innocent look*

Of course I could see Cap and I shooting each other down and laughing our butts off about it.  'dicho your right engine looks a little cold *blatblatblatblatblat* there it's on fire now that should warm it up'  :lol  *on the runway about to start* 'blamblamblamblam* You just shot down Cap1 'WTF???' 'My hit percentage is low this month I need to up the average a bit hope you don't mind'   :D

you know, you might be on to something there! No icons, german vs USA. hmmm its a thought. like puma said, with kill shooter off, it could be really interesting! i could always drop it down to D500 too hehehe.

exactly.....and the worst that can happen, is that it doesn't work, and you change it back to how it is now. i'd be willing to bet though, that it only adds to the fun.

well if you cant identify a german or american plane by D500, you got other problems hehehehe

i think a bomber setup could entice alot of MA guys too. this could be fun. 1 big mass bombing raid. oh yeah and i forgot, we could shut radar off to hehehehe.  :devil

not that i would, the no icon thing is tough enough.

Hmmm.... :joystick:  No radar, eh?  It makes one wonder how many radars they had in North Africa back in the day.  Just a thought.

As more guys get time and experience with no icons it seem that visual lookout is improving.  There are a whole bunch of ya that it's way harder to sneak up on than it was a couple O' three weeks ago.  :salute

last week, when you kept killing me.......i knew ya were there. i saw ya. i heard ya. i was getting "check six's" out the wazoo.

my problem was that i got myself so focused on the target....especially when i managed to saddle up on one....that although i saw and heard ya, it didn't "register" that you were there.

 does that actually make sense?

is there a way to turn off the dots, but leave the bar? it may chase too many away with no dar at all.....but if there's a bar.....at least they know what sector to look in.

I really like this idea. You would know what sector the bad guys are in without the GPS aspect of dot dar. Also, if you're in a fight and lose visual on the bandit you can't use dot dar as a crutch to make contact again. What I'd really like to see is dot dar in the tower only. In the case of the massive bomber raid, a player could stay in the tower and GCI friendlies into the best position to intercept.

that'd be cool.....maybe try it for one of the challenges first....then if it seems well accepted, try it on normal nights? or possibly the other way 'round.

just shut up will ya! :D   dont worry about, all input is always appreciated, positive or negative!

ok give me through the weekend. ill have a neat little setup for you guys. big map, lots of bombers, escorts, no icons either side, objectives and ill need commanders for both sides.

now for your job, pick or find a large squad we can do this against. maybe even 2 squads.

preliminary will be rhine map, allies attacking, axis defending. we will need several commanders for different wings. again allies have to capture base to win!

It makes perfect sense, Cap.  What you experienced is in the real world, called "target fixation".  You get so entranced with the target and the need to finish it that even though hearing a check six, it is near impossible to break it off and let go.  It's a very common real world problem and in here.  I'm a frequent victim of it also.  It's like, just two more seconds, I've got him, and.....tink, tink, BOOM, and I'm kicking back in the tower.  I've become quite the expert at augering in when trying to strafe a ground target.  It takes years of practice and study but, perfection is achievable.  :lol   :salute

This worked well for the BoB "This Day in History" a few weeks back. CM sat in the tower and called out raids, and we ended up with lots of good fights.

LOL...I would think that any day that doesn't have a popular special event going on would be prime for an AvA deelio. If all of us fans didn't have to work for a living, it wouldn't sit empty most of the time.
