I DVR'd The Event and finally decided to watch it after I logged last night. The previews looked good but UGH. That's some of the worst acting, writing, and special effects, I've ever seen.
What shows have lived up to or exceeded your expectations and which ones make you wonder why you pay for cable or dish television?

dr. who has consistantly impressed me.
i used to REALLY like farscape, and was pretty pissed when they took it off the air.
way back when, i liked lafemme nikita. i thought it was another good show. recently, they've remade that series, calling it nikita. so far, it's not too bad, although the acting isn't living up to other series.

But then you actually watch it, and you're like :x :x :x
It's like every nerd fantasy got tossed into a blender and pureed into one big geekgasmic smoothie.

I wouldn't call those posers Italian. Can they speak Italian? were they born there? then they definitely aren't Italian.

Good Acting? Ummmmm, not so much...
But they do have Yvonne Strahovski, so I'm game to sit through it.

Southland is the best show I've seen in a while. It ran on NBC for 6 episodes with good critical acclaim, but they cancelled it over the summer. TNT has picked it up, and showed the second 6 episodes. New season starts in January. Unfortunately, you can't catch them online anymore, but we'll see if they post them again as the new season gets closer...

I think part of NBC's problem is that they HAVE aired quality, thought-provoking and unique programming, (Southland, Chuck, that one with the actor who played Winters in BoB that only lasted something like 5 episodes) but people just want to watch reality garbage like American Idol, Dancing with the Has-Beens, and Survivor; run of the mill procedurals; and repetitive sitcoms.

Raising Hope on FOX is great. Funniest stuff I've seen in a while.
-
FX Sons of Anarchy Great show in its 2nd season :aok
-
"It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"
Hilarious show, give it a try.

Saxman the title for that series was "Life" and I think the actor's name is damian lewis. The show actually aired two years before it got the axe. You can find all the episodes on hulu if your interested.
A show I really enjoyed but is now finished was top shot on the history channel (i think). That was the first reality tv I have watched sence the first 2 episodes of the original survivor.

Agreed. The writers of that show must have a hell of a fun time on each episode.

I thought it was Life but wasn't sure. I'm pretty sure it didn't last two years. I think it debuted in the fall alongside the second season of Chuck, and most certainly wasn't airing when Chuck's second season returned from the holiday break.

+1
I almost feel bad for not including Its Always Sunny in my post as one of the best new shows on TV.

The first episode aired in sept 2007 and the final episode aired april 2009, so about a year and a half. 2 seasons worth of episodes, acording to the original air dates listed by hulu.
back on topic, Castle and White Collar are fairly entertaining shows.

Wow, I almost forgot about "East Bound and Down".
