Title: Player created GV spawns
Post by: jarbo on October 01, 2010, 05:19:43 PM
Use Bomber perks and a C47 to establish GV spawn point.  Add 5 C47 Supplies within 1000yds of spawn and spawn materialises as a single destructable hanger with a 30min timer (unless resupplied).  Game would limit "minimum" distance to any established map object.  Allows players to modify map for short duration to make gameplay more variable.

One jabo could close spawn and end the incursion.

Who knows maybe even a convoys of M3s could do the same .... might allow a "player created" resupply line.

A player created FOB...  Interesting.  Instead of a hangar, make it a cluster of camo tents.  Might be cool.

I like this idea, although. We might have to put a limit on how close they can be withing a base limit.

I forsee a bunch of players upping from a spawn 3 feet from a town.

Overall I think it is a very nice creative idea.

Definitely a creative idea, and I like it as well.  Would have to have restrictions though, can you imagine launching M3s from your newly created spawn point to create another hanger, then another, then another... till you've got a massive camp of vehicle hangers.  :lol  Also, there would be plenty of NOE C-47 raids to establish hangers near the enemy strat.   Would need a little work but could be cool.

Interesting idea. With a bit of tweaking, it could create a few more combat options.

Anything that gives the game expansion and diversity cannot be a bad thing!!!   :salute

Sounds cool, just after a few mods to avoid glitchs and "gaming the game" could be pretty nice.

It would take more effort to sit at a spawn for 2 hours.

I think it would add alot to the game.

Rules to make it work:

May note be further than X from a friendly base.

May not be closer than Y to an enemy base or resource.

That's actually a excellent idea. I think with a bit of tweaking it could be a great add on. +1

Great idea.

Details need to be hammered out.

A limit on the total number?

How close to an enemy base?

How long would the spawn point last?

Pardon my very far out idea, how about something like a 'land cv?'  More of a M*A*S*H-like unit.  It could set up as a spawn point, then pack up to move to a new location.  Ok, it's half baked.

Still like the idea of player determined variable spawn points.

Drooping in engineer troops and field supplies, from either M3 or C47, would spawn a small forward base camp GV’s could spawn.   The forward needed base needed to be resupplied by either air or ground to continue to exist.

Why don't you flesh it out so it becomes like the eastern front.

If you can hold the forward GV base for say 15minutes then it spawns an aircraft hanger. Limit the hanger to Il2, Hurric, spit5 something like that. On a trial basis these forward bases can only be setup halfway between your current base and the next enemy base. The enemy base can do the same back at your forward base say within 5 miles of it. Eastern front bases were so close aircombat never got much above 12k. If you take the next closest enemy base it goes away or by some criterion of being destroyed by the enemy. But you can reistablish it all over again.

For coading it would probably be easier to have an object created called <hidden base>. The map maker inserts two or more between every feild. They become functioning bases by the OP's criterion or some number of M3 holding that ground with supplys or a new <supply object> for the purpose for 15 minutes. Maybe they deliver all the parts to a hut or radar tower within a certain amount of time. Then the hidden base object becomes reveiled and usable with a new spawn to the nearest enemy feild suddenly appereing. Give it limited GV's and limited aircraft and mannable only guns. But, make the ability to get rid of it as simple as dropping the GV and aircraft hangers. This could get really gamey for greifers in a hurry. But could make some late night quick fun furballs between two close forward feilds until the fun police squirt on it.

+1 for the idea. Agree that there's a lot of details to hammer out.

First of all, no radar for these things. Unrealistic and plenty of Dar coverage as-is.

What if... instead of a FOB (Fwd operating base) spawning or appearing out of nowhere, it was built into the map from the get-go as and required troops to capture/use just like a regular field. (FOBs would not count towards country status or victory, merely facilitate it:) FOBs would have no defenses of their own,  (A set of tents, a shack or two, barbed wire etc.) they'd merely be acting as another staging point offering more spawns/ routes of approach for GVers. This would really give a place to the C-47 pilots out there since they would have tons of little facilities to capture at the start of a war and once these places are up, they would require constant resupp runs for the "front line". If the very limited number of bldgs (5-6?) on a FOB are blown, it becomes unusable.  C47 supps however would only require a 5 min lag to take effect and spruce things up.

I don't care for vehicles spawning out of thin air to a fixed point 20 miles away but most people don't want to drive that either; you need flexibility to avoid getting egged 3 sec after spawning.
FOBs should have multiple spawn points, maybe 5-6 that spread out like fingertips along a front line opposing the enemy FOB. Only when the FOBs connecting major bases have been captured can you hold an enemy field at risk with GVs.

I don't like the idea of aircraft being able to spawn out of FOBs as it would throw off the gameplay a wee bit much.  A little "dirt" stip in the style of the Finnish resistance would work well so you could land kills a little faster.  A rearm pad wouldn't be too outlandish either, but no initial spawns or hangars.

 :salute

Oh man. This is a really good wish. I cannot add anything else to make this wish more effective.
