10 years ago there used to be an FM station that played nonstop 70s R&B and disco from 6 PM to 3 AM 10 every saturday night. Nowadays it's diluted with 90s and 00s stuff, I'm ok with that but I still think saturday night should still be pure 70s R&B and disco :aok

10 years ago there was a station by here that done the same thing, wonder if it was an affiliate station.
For me music past the 80's I dont even listen to. I have 18 FM presets and 6 AM presets and the FM's arent even full because everything around here is country, 90's+++ music, or gospel. There is hardly any classic rock or oldies stations here anymore. All the AM's are full and to me there is a lot better music played on AM then there is on FM
-
Lady Gaga, Madonna, Beyonce and their ilk, still keep disco alive.
Its like a Zombie, ya can't kill it, its already dead. :O

Radio genre popularity goes in waves.. just like fashion.
Wait a few years, then a station will go 'only disco' and people will switch over to that one because it's something different.. then 12 other stations will change their format, too, to get in on the gravy train.
So that, then, all you hear is disco.
People will get tired of it in a year or so and it will go to the next genre.
Rinse, repeat, .. ad nausem.

:headscratch: What? LMAO That's not disco. Not even close.
Actual disco bands...
BeeGees
Earth, Wind and Fire
KC and the Sunshine Band
Dr. Hook
Gary Wright
Gino Vanelli
Steve Miller Band
Hot Chocolate
Commodores
O'Jays
Just to name a few...

The day I first heard green day on classic rock and oldies stations was the same day my hair-line receded 3 inches back. I think I was in shock and denial for the remainder of that week over it all.

alady gaga sucks, madonna does her own music, as does beyonce. they do not do disco.

Greenday and Offspring rule :rock
just saying.

i'd be willing to bet that given the same media exposure that some of the past greats had, that those two would still be not heard of.

Dr. Hook? :rofl Nope.

Disco.......was absolutely the worst....wasn't what I would consider music.
Thank heaven Bill Veck had it blown up in Comisky park. He is our Savior.

Dr. Hook? :rofl Nope.
Steve Miller either

What is funny is the fact that "Saturday Night Fever" was best selling album of All-time until "Thriller" came around. It reached 25 million by 1983. It also had 10 out of the 17 tracks being hits, with 6 of the 10 being #1's.
It may be disco, but not many "pop" albums can make that claim, if any.
This is all from memory, but I believe it is accurate

Insane Coho Lips Anti-Disco Army... Disco Demolition Night... Steve Dahl and Gary Meier - The Loop - WLUP.
I watched this mayhem on television... lucky no one was killed.
And it was Bill Veecks son, Mike Veeck who organized this.
MLB blacklisted him after this fiasco... rightfully so... IMHO.
X :salute

Mike Veeck has always been an innovator of marketing Baseball games. He's done some even funnier things since the "DD Night". He's in the Minor's now Marketing better than ever before.

What? You two saying neither of those bands were disco bands? :headscratch:
Dr. Hook had 2 songs that I remember very well that were mildly popular for disco...
You make my pants want to get up and dance.
Sharing the night together.
Steve Miller Band had more popular disco songs.
Fly Like an Eagle
Take the Money and Run
Jungle Love
The Joker
Swingtown...and more.

Dr. Hook was a Folk/Country Band. So I don't know how in the hell you are making this correlation.
Take The Money and Run is a disco tune?
The Joker?
:rofl :rofl
If Steve Miller is Disco (he is far from it, albeit overplayed and overrated), then "Have a Cigar" by Pink Floyd must be Disco. You are so incorrect on these two bands it isn't funny.
-
Although dead, Disco frequesntly resurects itself for a few weeks at a time. :lol

disco gets considerable airplay on 98.1 in the philly area.

We have a classic rock station in range. All they play is 70s stuff for the most part.
I think Stairway to Heaven is played twice daily. Gets old real quick. Ive started listening to our local station. Im pleasantly surprised by the variety on it.

OMG, you were not fully aware of the world during the disco era were you? Barry White, Teddy Pendergrass, Glen Campbell and Peter Frampton weren't disco artists either but all it took was 1 or 2 songs to hit the disco charts and all of a sudden they were popular disco artists, even if that was short lived.
Remember the words "it has a good beat and you can dance to it"? That's all it took, regardless of the band or its origins.
-
Disco gets airtime on a local old school R&B station. I know for sure it isn't dead.A lot of music that is called Disco is typically now called classic Soul/R&B, or Old School Funk. I played a corporate function about a year ago,and we did one set that was nothing but Disco/Funk,R&B,etc. And it just killed! They loved it. Kool and tha Gang, Earth Wind and Fire,Donna Sommer,KC and the Sunshine Band,etc.. Go back and listen to some of that stuff again. There is a lot going on there, especially in the rhythm section. Having been a bass player for about 30 years now,I really appreciate the songwriting that went on back in those days. Hated it then, but love it now. :aok

The songs by Steve Miller you listed, were NOT Disco.

I think I get it. I gotta update my lexicon now.
I automatically thought that 70s song that didn't sound like classic rock and ballad is disco to me :headscratch:

Thank you. Some songs being "Pop" fared better on the "Disco Charts" because they were "Dance hits". Someone doesn't understand that fact.

that's why us old farts are here. we need to educate the younguns in music. :aok
