I would like to request a checkbox in flight preferences to give you the option to disable someone else being able to assign you as a wingman with the dot command.
-
And take away one of the funnest ways to attach newbs to my squaddies? No way!
On a serious note, it seems like a reasonable request, but may I ask why?
-
I can see why this might be wanted, with some recent events.
-
It would be an option, you could leave it unchecked if you want to keep it as it is now.
I have requested it because I think it is a reasonable provision to prevent an exploitation of this feature in a way in which I am sure it was not intended.

I assume you either are talking about tracking someone or distracting someone while in flight?
-
It wouldn't distract since the wing'd person gets no message they have been wing'd. Maybe somebody's shade is attaching themselves to the op for "easy kills?"

LOL. Just becuase you are paranoid does not mean the world is not out to get ya! :rofl If this is the reason for the request then I say nope.
-
I use the wingman dot command to find a dot in a crowd quite often.
The 'goto' feature only takes one to the field from which someone launched. The white dot gives more specific information (if the guy isn't in a gv.)
Why is this a problem?
-
While there is the occasional player that will use the .wingman command to "hunt" other players, I am sure the instances of it happening isn't all that common.
If you're really paranoid about someone using the .wingman command to track you, just log off and log back on and it wipes the .wingman marker on you.
ack-ack

I see no reason for this as all it really does is identify the player you are winging with. In my case when I do it I choose white to idnetify my wingmen. I use wingmen when i learn tactics. I get no benefit other than learning by flying on my wingmans six and covering him.

Not sure why anybody would need the .wingman to hunt nrshida. Just look for the KI that's slaughtering everybody in the DA. Most likely he's at the controls. :D

I did mention it would be an option so that a player could choose for themselves.
I suggested it on the Wishlist as it occurred to me it was a simple way to ensure the dot wingman command was used only for the purpose it was intended. Perhaps I should have requested a notification when someone assigns you as a wingman. Or an option to accept or decline in the same way a join request is sent.
I kind of hoped those players who recognised the need for this would understand, and that it wouldn't bother those who didn't.
Paranoia, Ack-Ack, would suggest to me a delusional and unfounded feeling of persecution.
Let me ask a simple question then: is it an unreasonable expectation to have your position on a map hidden from ALL of your opponents?
Or should a player who has access to additional accounts (paid for or otherwise) be allowed essentially his own personal AWACS system displayed in realtime on a second machine so he can immediately find the position of any opponent he chooses?
I can afford exactly one account and I expect a level playing field for that. Does anyone know HTC's official position on this? Is it forbidden or tolerated?

I usually agree with you ack ack . I think you are wrong here though . Lets say you had someone looking just for you ,they manage to pick you a few flights in a row . So you get out of your signature plane ,into a Spit XVI ( who would ever look for ack ack in a spixteen?) . The guy that has ruined 2 fights still manages to single you out and pick you again . Now I know that SA needs to be maintained . However if you are playing on the level you can't compete with someone that ups an uber fast ride knows where you are . If you are engaged . All he has to do is be in god mode in DA circle high just out of icon wait until you are in a position of reduced E and alt and he has pretty much has you all served up . By definition this is an unfair advantage . Wasn't the manual calibration in buffs done away with because guys with low end sticks couldn't compete ? Now my question to you is this . How can this possibly be fair to someone who can only afford 1 PC or 1 account ? Giving someone the ability to decline .wingman command would only hinder people who are misusing it . They still can try to hunt you down . This is not an unfair or frivolous wish imho . +1 here shida . Logging off and on aren't a very good option . No icon ,quick roster check , /.wingman anyonethatoutflewmeandpissedm eoff .Right back to square one .

The back & forth between us was intended to be jocular my good man.
Paranoia, Ack-Ack, would suggest to me a delusional and unfounded feeling of persecution.
But since you brought it up... In one way or another, we are all persecuted in some fashion each and every day we live. Think about it.
But I don't feel persecuted usually unless kvuo75 is flying in the same sector. :uhoh

Ok, now I see the OPs intent. The .wingman command is abused through the use of a shade account.
The best solution would be the right of refusal similar to .join.
Pardon my naiveté.
-
This is actually a very good idea shida, anything that is open to abuse regards a customers privacy the customer should have the option to protect his privacy. This is as standard for the rest of the online world no reason why it shouldn't be in a pay to play service like Aces High.
+1 :aok

Yeah and they are calling me paranoid...... LOL

No accusations of paranoia from me.
The 'why' of this request was not clear to me. I do not think in terms of shade accounts. Now it makes sense.
How often does this happen? It can't be that often.
-
+1!
It would hinder the hunting efforts of certain stalkish types of players.
-
I don't see the harm of having the "option" to do it. Even better would be get a message on the txt buffer like when someone tries to ride in your plane.
While at it, can we take away the option of not popping a dialog box when a join request is made. It was a lot of fun making join requests while Jaxxo was trying to land :rofl

You guys have got to be kidding me...stalkers? :noid
-
A simple solution for the paranoid would be to make the "paranoid" would make the white dot work both ways. If someone .wingman's you, they also show up as a white dot.
At least you will know who is "stalking" you. :noid
Otherwise, lead them around the arena. Or, simply relog.
wrongway
-
It can be annoying when a crazy guy :airplane: stalks you. Yes there is someone that plays that will chase you all day long even if you re-log.
I take it he has nothing better to do with his time :bolt:
-
No, no kidding Waystin.
Wrongway that would not help at all I'm afraid, the wingman request comes from a second account that sits in the tower on your own team. Firstly the position of him is irrelevant (he's just the AWACS display) and secondly one can not make a connection between him and a stalker, as Waystin called it.
I can absolutely understand the suggestions of paranoia. Only those that have experienced this first hand can tell you just how creepy some players can be, and the lengths they will go to. Relogging, switching to the third country, taking small breaks, flying different aircraft from your favourite one, having a friend fly your favourite one near you in your paint scheme while you fly his in his paint scheme, and even doing all of this for hours on end will not work to deter a dedicated griefer. He can find you immediately at any time in any furball, any group of winging aircraft, or in any place you go to alone on the map regardless of what aircraft you are flying.
Denying a wingman request will not stop unreasonable behaviour, but it will remove the mechanistic advantage such a player has by exploiting certain features of the game that were intended for other purposes, and protect the privacy of players who are simply trying to fight fairly.
I was still hoping for an answer to my question, regardless of HTC's official policy, does the community consider the abuse of the wingman command with a second account to be cheating?
-
stalking by shades happens..
This is a good idea! :aok

There's even people in AH that shoot at you. :devil

Shooting at us we don't object to. But earn it.

"People with paranoid personality disorder are generally characterized by having a long-standing pattern of pervasive distrust and suspiciousness of others. A person with paranoid personality disorder will nearly always believe that other people's motives are suspect or even malevolent. Individuals with this disorder assume that other people will exploit, harm, or deceive them, even if no evidence exists to support this expectation. While it is fairly normal for everyone to have some degree of paranoia about certain situations in their lives (such as worry about an impending set of layoffs at work), people with paranoid personality disorder take this to an extreme -- it pervades virtually every professional and personal relationship they have. This is one of the rare occasions I actually lol'ed for real reading something on these boards. Not for the content but rather whos posting it. Hearing your demented rants over the years on range or typing on 200 about subjects as diverse as children respecting their elders to side switching! lol Dads, I'm presuming you've used this website? I haven't heard you rant in ages... :devil
It is not an unreasonable request
-
:rofl
There is probably some sort of game induced anger related symptom I have but it certainly isn't anything about being paranoid or shy.
-
In the past 3 years or so, I've probably though "spy" 3 or 4 times. Based on what I was in or where I was... But at the same time, I have "bumped" into random goons or NOE bombers just as many times. It's just one of those things. It probably exists but I don't think much.
How often does this happen? It can't be that often.
You're serious aren't you? Whoa... :uhoh All in all, I don't think alerting the player they have a wingman is a bad idea at all. That way, now you know the callsign, you also know the enemy player, hit R, take a screeny of the wingman, send it all into HTC. They can then see where the 2 callsigns are coming from and take appropriate action. I will only speak for myself when I say, I do believe that if a person is using 2 accounts to hone in on one player specifically, should be looked at as cheating.
At the same time the easy, although annoying, fix for this is to simply switch fighting that country. The other person will change countries to go fight you again. Now you can switch back and have and hour & half of no "person" around. :aok

I doubt you are paranoid, angry? yeah but thats just you Dads :P your suspicions on switch switching to gain advantage were based on a suspicious pattern by certain players actions you spotted, you were right to get cheesed off about it. By the same reasoning its wrong to assume the OP or posters in this thread are somehow in need of mental therapy or make light of it when you have experienced people preforming questionable antics onlne yourself and it made you angry.
A very small minority in game will always seek to break/bend the rules by any means possible to their advantage, closing off as many potential 'open' avenues to do that is therefore important.
Its not paranoia at all its reconsigning when what should be a random one off event becomes a pattern as predictable as the sun rising.

You could not be more wrong if you tried . If anything nrshida thinks the best of people . A year or so ago I tried to tell him a guy he was helping was not living up to his agreement . The agreement was shida and slimmer would help him improve ,but he could not pick , ho ,etc . Well it took shida in god mode watching this guy do it to convince him . I was worried it would make shida more cynical and less likely to help . Thankfully not the case . I watched him the other day go around and around with a guy that has a language barrier in the middle of the DA lake . Trying to give him an earned shot ,all the while having me call off countrymen who were going to help shida . This while trying to translate from babble . Nothing describes shida better then "class act" . I often refer to him as the conscience of the DA . Paranoid ? Hardly !
