Title: once again picked
Post by: grumpy37 on October 04, 2010, 03:05:22 PM
Ive been coming into the AvA and having a blast.  I was in earlier today with klampit and we clearly indicated we were having a 1v1 fight.  Seahagg  (seadog36) decided he was going to interupt and pick me.  Players like this are why i ride the fence on quiting the game all together.  If you wanna pick go to the MA.  that type of play is the reason the guys in the AvA have left the MA.  If its a large group or no one has stated its a 1v1  then game on, beyond that respect the wishes of the players.

DON'T let one jerk in there take ya out of the game dude. it's too much fun in there.......and in real fights guys like that'll get owned so quickly, so much, that their egos won't let em come in much.............

Actually I fly in the AVA for the Axis vs Allied plane matchups more than to escape to some supposed utopia where everything is perfect. Last Thursday I was vultched more in one night than I have been all year in the MAs. There's no point in naming names because the guys callsign pretty much says he's proud of what he does. The no icons is lot of fun but it makes life easier for griefers. I could have complained on 200 but that would have just fed this guy's ego even more. Decent behavior and being friendly for the good of the arena is one thing. However the guys that specifically go out of their way to throw feces on the spirit of the arena and to be a pain in the donut should not be tolerated.

the guy you're referencing, is believed to be a shade, although i don't know who. nothing is perfect.

the point is, that people in there do silly things, like letting you get some alt so ya can hava a fun fight(i chose not to, and merged them anyway).

there are fun furballs in there. there's fun bomber vs fighter engagements.

it's just not the same old crap as in the main arenas.

where you think the lack of icons makes it easier for the griefers, i think it makes it harder. the same as you have trouble spotting them, they have trouble spotting you.

as for tolerating those types.........i think there's some surprises comin round the mountain for em.

i hope you're gonna be back for more fun in there........ :aok

You don't need to get defensive and give me the party line on no icons. I happen to be a fan of the no icons and hope the AVA stays that way. However with no icons no radar on the deck and with the field ack knocked down it does make it easier for a guy who is rolling down the runway to get vultched by a guy lurking around the base looking to do just that. If it wasn't an advantage this clown wouldn't be doing it because that is all he has in his bag of tricks.

i hope you're gonna be back for more fun in there........ :aok

Been flying the AVA/CT since 2001. I just seem new because I don't participate in all this new era nut hugging you guys are doing now days. ;)

Yep came complete with two cans and a string. :aok

Actually since I moved to Sulphur Springs in 2004 I've had great broadband service with Sudden Link. Before that I lived in a small town 30 miles South of here and had dialup with a company that doubled as a bait shop. Is Schertz in or near the Hill Country?

Absolutely no offense taken, Sir!  When things are whirling and twirling, it happens.  This is an air combat game.  This is the AVA where I've seen it grow quite rapidly into a chivalrous environment of gentlemen aviators.....and you are definitely one of them.  Speaking of vulching.....

I made a pass today that was initially thought to be a vulce but, was really a flyby salute in which I never fired my guns.  The top of that 109 was a bit dusty though. But, not afterwards.
(http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac270/puma44/FlybySalute.jpg)  :salute
For me, vulching is a no skill, cheap shot, sign of desperation event that I have no use for and won't participate in.  But, that's just me....... :D

I'm always up for a nice flyby though..... :airplane:

that's funny!!

i had just landed, and just as i was about to hit the "end mission" button, i heard an engine. never heard guns, but heard the aircraft, then as i hit the tower(from ending) i saw a blur of wings go by.
i looked on dar, saw dyko(  :D) over by your base with a red dot on him, which i thought was you. i looked at the roster, saw vultchy in as a bish, and thought it must've been him that came over, whilst you were busy.
guess i should stop assuming things, eh?\

Title: Re: once again picked
Post by: Dawger on October 05, 2010, 09:04:01 AM
I've never quite understood the desire to keep everything a 1 v 1 cage match but then I spent years as a trainer and have had more than my fill of 1 v 1.

As I have said before if you ask me to stay out of your fight, I consider it a permanent invitation.

And anyone is always welcome to come help me or blast me from the sky. I view it as my own poor situational awareness that got me there and view it as an opportunity to learn.

Hopefully, I get to fly some this week but real life has been intruding.

And yes there are a few folks who have made the AvA their opportunity to make other people miserable. Some folks just get pleasure from annoying other people.

Schadenfreude.

Its bad for the arena and hopefully they will get bored and go away.

Radar is the arena's friend. It helps folks find the fight and keeps the annoying folks in check. Historically, radar was very difficult to eliminate so hardening radar to a high level would be an historical option that would definitely help the AvA

i don't think 1-1's have to be all the time. i just tend to ask first(usually), and appreciate it if/when someone asks me before they come in and clear me.

often, someone will see a bandit on my tail, and just assume i want help, when in fact, i prefer to try to regain my advantage....or die a flaming cartoon death trying.

the other night, i had a blast trying to surround grumpy, and jc. i got em each once......but then they paid me back in spades......

A good, in the phone booth, 1v1 is a lot of fun until some smack jumps into the middle for a cheap shot and kill....simple enough (for me, in the same category as the no skill vulch).  Now, when two guys are flying tactical and mutual support, as is done in real world combat, that's a different thing, i.e. a 2v1.  Mutual support in this instance is all about one of the two putting the pressure on the bandit while the other maneuvers out of plane for the kill.  That is just the way it is.  As is said out in the world, approach every conflict "with overwhelming force".  So, given a choice, it's always better to go 2v1, 4v2, etc with mutual support.  When cruising the twin rivers map in the AVA (have I told ya lately, Ranger, how awesome the map is?) and you see one bandit, ALWAYS assume there are two....you just haven't seen the other one yet!  :O  When there's not a wing man to mutual support with, use wing man earth, trees, and camouflage to gain the advantage.   :salute

funny that you mention camoflauge.

that's why you saw me in german iron last night. it seems when most people mention having a hard time seeing low cons, they always say they can't see the german planes. i had noticed this too. so i took a ride in a 109f.

let me tell ya. your pee40 blended into the background last night, just as easily as the me109's do when i'm flying american iron.

i think that it's more to do with camo, and with the actual size of the airplane. the me109 is one of the smallest fighters out there i think. smaller even than the pee40. the pee38 is one of the largest fighters out there. top that off with the lack of good camo for them, and it explains a LOT of why they're so easy to kill in there.......in my case, that only compounds my suckage in them...........

Ditto. Exactly the way those of us who enjoy the arena should keep our mindset.

P.S. Jaeger's battle of the bridges tonight is going to have very short range friendly icons...anyone who has "picking" issues might want to slack up a bit on the ideology of 1v1 chivalry, or skip showing up for it. With a friendly icon range of D800, there isn't going to be time for check six's much less knowing who is intent on 1v1's.

You are exactly right, Cap.  Along with other things, size does matter; especially if used to an advantage.  :salute

The right camouflage for the terrain is invaluable.  The 38s are lacking in really good camo schemes, except for a couple of the darker, dull paint jobs.  It's interesting how some 38 drivers, with one of the biggest fighters in the game, will fly a silver/bright paint scheme which in turn makes them even more visible at long distance due to the constant sun glitter that comes off a reflective skin.   :huh

I may be wrong but I suspect the default P-38J skin has invasion stripes. I know I pick up what looks like white stripes at a distance and it always turns out to be a P-38.

{edit} I just checked it's both engine spinners and nacells are painted white. The 20th FG was marked this way before adding black and white on their ponys. It shows up a long way off on my rig anyway.

My point is the default skin is what you see at a distance, it's not until you are fairly close that the skin you are actually flying kicks into view.

aaaahahhhhhhhh........gotcha. i didn't know that.

CAP a couple of other aircraft that show up brightly at a distance. A6M2, KI-61, and for some reason the C205. With these aircraft regardless of what skin you use your opponant can usually ID you at a distance. It's best to get close to the fight as quickly as possible so your chosen skin kicks in otherwise you give your enemy an advantage of knowing what you are quite a way off. Just thought you could use this info, there's probably qyite a few others as well.

Yeah, but it wasn't working so good tonight.  You HUNs had your heads on a swivel.  Seems every time I got ready to throw the switch I'd get that 109 pirouette in my face.  :x  You guys were an exceptionally tough crowd tonight.  Well done!   :salute

Wow, for the record, there was never any indication that it was 1v1. The other guy was in another part of the sector when you engaged me with alt. If anything the other guy was trying to pick you as he showed up after. It IS entertaining to see you cry publicly though :cry. The other guy offered to stay out to 1v1 so we could duke it out with more evenly matched planes, but you logged. The next time I saw you I proposed a 1v1 and you again logged. Easy to pick a low slow jug in a 109, but once u got stung by a hurri cannon u are nowhere to be found.

If you are so miserable with the state of things in the game please do leave like you so often idly threaten. Your disappearance will not be noted except that there will be one less complainer moaning on every possible mode of communication in this awesome game. Oh and the name calling, maybe a sandbox with some kindergartners is a good arena for you.  ~Seadog36

i've not known grumpy to run from a fight, or log after death. after he kilt me in my hurri(as i was killing those awesomely dangerous ground guns), enough people came in to create a small furball.

grumpy consistantly fought against my pee40. he fought with the advantage, he fought with the disadvantage. he's a good guy to fight against, as they're ALWAYS fun.
