just got outta the AvA.......ww1 junk. sooooooooooooooooooo much fun. i think i augered, and gave each person flying a german plane at least 2 kills each on myself.
i do have to apologize to wildesau though,........that collision was my fault........i expected you to turn, but ya didn't.
i'll get some screens up soon, but right now, i gots to get to bed..........but those reading this.........go into the ava, and fly those old heaps o junk that they used to call airplanes. you will not regret it@!

Last night was my first time giving those WWI crates a spin, online or offline, and it was a freaking blast. That was a great fight going on last night. Was like AH crack I just couldn't stop upping although I knew I should of been in bed.
I hit the ground, trees and other planes so many times it was pathetic. Takes a bit of getting use to fighting so close and the sudden movements the enemy planes make. All that lends itself to collisions. But luckily the fight was low and close and didn't take long to get back into it.
I had a great time, way more than I was anticipating flying the WWI setup. <S>
-
Yep last night was a blast, pure dogfighting. One second you'd have a numbers advantage the next you'd be alone with four badguys... I haven't had that much fighting fun in years it was a constant brawl. It was almost like the game was new again. Nice job everybody on keeping it fun.
<S>
-
Sure as heck didn't LOOK like yalls first time. Seemed like every time I got to the fight there yall would be swarming my butt. You didn't even have to pull the trigger cause I'd either stall out or dive into a tree. Farmer John was really unhappy about his barn and two milk cows. <S> gents.

True true. Knights of the sky, noble aerial gladiators, gentleman murderers. Was lots of fun, in large part because everyone was so plainly happy and pleasant.

YEP......DIDN'T see a single bad word uttered in there.....although i think i slipped with a few expletives, as i fell outta the sky in perfect sapp style.
i got em sewing two sopwiths together right now, so i can feel more at home. :devil

I screwed someone over as well. Dr.I went vertical, I went after it firing (and I think missing as usual), tried to avoid as he slowed but I think as he pulled over to go back down he smacked into the bottom of my bird. Closure rate can really get to you.

Photoshop here I come '
Ya monk I had my share of collisions as well. grrrr......

If I can't shoot 'em down, I luv taking my D7 to the deck and jinking between trees and buildings until they auger behind me. :t Got more than one to do that last night. :rock

might have been me! was a total blast in there last night. im looking forward to tonight! got my share of kills, and got my share of "pop, straight to the tower!".
<S> to all that played last night and kept it fun!
-
Have to agree was a blast and funny that at one point in time we had more numbers then the WW1 and MW arenas combined.... I havnt seen that many WW1 planes in the first day the WW1 arena opened!
-
THE Thing that amazed me was how suddenly those german planes could change direction. it'd seem i'm tracking a d7 one second, and next i know, he's pirouetted, and now coming back at me going underneath...........
was MUCH more fun than i thought it was gonna be.
-
You guys flying the F2 didnt seem to have much trouble snapping around back on us...... But I do find the rear gun kinda funny... I took out jaeger once while he was shooting from his rear gun. I hit him from the front, full on hoe shot. Told him i didnt consider it a hoe since he was in the back of the plane... LOL
-
Yea it was great, i wasnt in there long but the time i spent was fantastic :rock

nowTHAT'S funny stuff!!
i took out one guy from the rear gun. he kept trying to get directly behind me, so i kept ruddering to keep him in my gun.... :devil
-

Ruddering is cheating...just like using the butt gun. :neener:
-

i always thought it was ACM! :lol
-
Didnt know jumping from the front to the back of the plane was considered a "Combat maneuver" Maybe if you did the splits or something between seats.....
-
I think they should give us hand guns so we can shoot straight up as planes fly over head...... Now THAT would be ACM :lol
-
Ruddering is cheating...just like using the butt gun. :neener:
see? i lay on me belly, keeling one foot hooked under a rudder pedal, and the other foot with me toes wrapped around the stick....this way, i can shoot out the back, and still steer my aeroplane. :devil
gotta admit though......my foot gets kinda cold.

that'd be cool!!
i was trying to hear ya, but the engine sounds for ww1 planes must be independent of the ww2 ones? i have things turned down on the ww2 stuff, so i can hear you all talk.....last night, if anything was near me, i could barley hear myself think........

I think the F2 rear gun is just compensation for the Dr.I's inability to fall apart at high G's.
But I digress: took up one F2 run last night expecting a gunner who had to log and was having fun turning that thing. Had one person get on my 6, flipped back to the gun, fired 3 rounds (not bursts, rounds), and my gunner got killed. Had to go back up front and fly like a real fighter :(

one of my first flights in a camel......i was way up high....prolly about 1k or so....dove on a bad guy....ripped my wings off. :rofl :rofl
-
Easy to spot LW guys flying WWI planes...they come in all alt-monkied up from about 4-5k, see the furball boiling at 200' and dive towards it just to torpedo wingless into the ground. :D

Airpedoes!!!!!! :O

i'm surprised anyone took the time to climb that high......

You didn't even have to pull the trigger cause I'd either stall out or dive into a tree.
I think everybody on both sides handed out a few freebies last night.

Explains why your plane seems to not fly all smooth and coordinated-like...your grip is too firm. :joystick: Your right forearm look like Popeye's?
-
ya know? now that you guys mention that....on a serious note..........i didn't scale my controls last time i downloaded the game. it seemed i was doing better in my pee38 o doom with things as they were. i wonder if scaling would help me with the kites........

I considered that last night as well. Thing is I still have the hyper mouse on speed going on and its a pita.

To even numbers last night, I flew for Allies in a F.1 Camel. Man, I R Teh Suxxor in a Camel.
Was curious, so looked up my numbers for the WWI planes in AvA this week:
D.VII
71-41 for a K/d ratio of 1.73
F.1
2-5 for K/d ratio of 0.4

i haven't tried....but if you pull up the roster in there, it gives standings, even though they don't show up on the scores page. this is part of what i mentioned to ya that one night, when it seemed that more than usual were flying high, and picking, ala latewar.......
but if there is a rank in there, i think you can right click the members name, and get that info there.
-
Go to scores page then stats. You can get stats on everything pilots planes and squads for each month in all the arenas except SEA, TA or DA.
-
I thought that was a place of legend and tall stories. You mean it's REAL? :O

No thank you. It's Friday and I don't feel like depressing myself.
This was a fun week. I believe it would take me several more of them before I began to grasp how to fly these WWI machines. Certainly it's a lot different from their WWII offspring.
Two things about the WWI planes make me smile: The little whirly thing on the D7's wing strut, and the propeller over/underspeed qualities.
It would be nice if one of you enterprising inventor types could come up with a periscope that I could mount on these machines so that I could see above the upper wing.

-
LOl oldman i agree 100% I to got my donut handed to me last night while flying the camels after a fairly successful week in the D7. Most of my deaths in the D7 were do to my trying to break the wheels off on takeoff and crashing lol. I could keep up with the D7 in either camel version but that little bastage tri-plane was just to much.
-
that little bastage tri-plane was just to much.
I like to think of the DRI as the Spit16 of WWI.

good way to look at it.
