Title: NVidia 9800gt problem
Post by: noTch on October 13, 2010, 09:38:49 AM
Real quick, what the h, e, double hockey sticks would cause my Nvidia Geoforce 9800gt to work fine last night for the races then I turn it off, come home from work, hit the power button & find out the card has no output. I plug in my VGA cord to the onboard VGA and I have video. I check out the device manager & no 9800gt just the 6100 onboard shows.  Any clues?   will get a dxdiag later. Just fishing for something obvious while I eat breakfast.

either the card went bad or the PCI-e power has gone bad.

i would reset and try and if no go refer to my previous diagnose

Remove and reinstall the card.

Also if there are any power connectors to the card, unplug and reinstall those as well.

If it still doesn't work, I would bet the card has failed (I *THINK* the device manager will still see the card, even if the power connector isn't plugged in but I'm not 100% on that one.)

Sometimes they just go bad.

Sometimes there can be a power surge while you have it off that can fry motherboard/video/power supply components.  Personally I keep mine on a power strip that I physically turn off when not in use.
