Nice, may I ask you how much that ran you?
Without accessories it cost me about 1600. It's actually my 4th AR, but my 1st complete build from all parts.
And the 2nd amendment of course! :)
I love guns....
The barrel is Daniel Defense 16" 1:7 twist, chrome lined. I added the muzzle from Yankee hill, but I should've went with the Vortex like yours :aok
I actually had to sell one of mine & my 6.8mm upper to build this one, but it was worth it, and fun as hell.
P.S. are those the pinned mags?
This is a guy who knows how to build an AR...
Note the detail of the pin restrainers from KNS...and the dot sight on top of the Trijicon..hell he even has a Gas Buster charging handle and what appears to be PR front folder...
It is that attention to detail that separates the wheat from the chaff...
Nice rig

;)
The mag on the SPR is a 20 round mag pinned to 10 rounds...my state sucks...the gun looks gay when you use standard 10 rounders so I got some 20's from Brownell and pinned them...and put the Magpul floors on...
Can you spot the other anomaly in image 3? that is also a compliance issue?...its a subtle rule, but overt in the image...

Details on the M44 please.
I will post a updated pic of my collection, I've added a few since the last time I posted my collection.
Ye every swiss soldier keeps his rifle at home. After finishing your service you can decide to keep it but they take out the full auto and triple shot setting.
We used to have a sealed container with 50 live rounds too(for use in war time only, to make it to the nearest base) but they discontinued this.
Mntman, looks like a 6 pt non-typical? What did that buck score?
I'm thinking about getting a Mossberg 500 12 gauge or a .223/12 gauge Remington.
Which one should I get? I'm thinking the Remington since it would be more versatile for Turkey and Whitetails and even Coyote and Pheasant.
.223 may need an accurate shot but I'm one of the best shots in my class (I live in KY, half the kids hunt). (I didn't mean to toot my own horn :uhoh )
Okay, so if I get a 12 gauge, what should I try to get next as a rifle? I had always been thinking about a 30-06, a 30-30 or a .308 Winchester.
I was also looking into.... This baby

Got a couple of questions about Mosin Nagants, I might honestly try to buy one, this thread is filling me with desire...
I've noticed some (M44's mainly) with laminated stocks, honestly love the look, but is this a factory thing or are these laminated?
Also, this goes for a lot of service rifles I've seen, people don't seem to like to use the attached cleaning rods, why is this?
IIRC, the Nagants are laminated by the factory to strengthen and preserve the rifle.I'm not talking about the cosmoline, laminated wood construction is something you can see a lot of in later Soviet designs... it's like plywood, kind of, they take bunch of 1/8" or so thick slices of wood and stick them together at opposing grains and then cut the stock out of that, as opposed to a solid brick of wood. I find a picture.

Larry, how's that hi-Point? I was looking into them a while back, and still am... I hear it is a real "usable" gun, shooting easy, and you can put a boatload of rounds through it.
Just to rub salt in the wound, iirc as a non US citizen you will not be allowed to own firearms :DIts not true. I disagree with that but as long as you legal resident of USA you allowed to purchase/own firearms, citizenship is not required.

OK I'll play too. These are the toys in the house at present. There used to be a couple more AKs. My oldest son was a real AK fanatic and historian. I had an M1 Carbine at one point and then an M1A but sold both of those. I like KISS AR15s so both the ARs are A1 uppers, one a Bushmaster and the other a DPMS. DPMS is local in Minnesota and some good folks to deal with.
The AKs were my sons and are a PKMS underfolder built on a Polish kit, and a Krebs Custom AK-74. I've got my son's Springfield Milspec 1911 as well and a couple more PKMS kits waiting to be built someday.

frankly I just don't see a point where I'm going to need a fake grenade launcher, flashlight, laser site and waffle iron when I shoot.
I'm going to need a fake grenade launcher, flashlight, laser site and waffle iron when I shoot. But to each his own I guess :)
Lots of really neat firearms. I assume most if not all of you have some ammunition for these. Do you order them online or go to a hardware store or what? If online, where? I would like to order some as I live over 65 miles from closest walmart or equivalent.

Mosin Nagant: Bayonet, sling, bolt tool and cleaning kit included, cosmoline already cleaned from barrel and ready to fire, $139 out the door.
Yugoslavian SKS: Bayonet and sling included, all parts matching, cosmoline cleaned from barrel and ready to fire, $329 out the door.
Any chance you could shoot a Mosin and a SKS before deciding? The Mosin is going to pack a much meaner punch to your shoulder. :)
Also, are you sold on those two? if not, you could venture into the lever action market. Just something to consider.
mir
I could probably shoot one of Tupac's Mosins, but I don't know where I could borrow an SKS...
The reason I looked at those two were because I want something military surplus and those were the cheapest lol.
As far as taking a solid thumping, I've shot an M1A (Similar cartrige size to the SKS?) as well as frequently shooting 12 gauge slugs, and I'm pretty sure those thump more than a Nagant, but I could be wrong.
Being a young, virile guy with more testosterone than intelligence (But don't worry, that doesn't carry over to safely operating a weapon) I actually prefer a solid thump when I shoot.
Well, I'm here looking for an oppinion rather than posting a new weapon.
The time has come for me to buy my first rifle, and I had originally planned on getting a Mosin Nagant because it was all I could afford. However, my budget has just jumped a little higher, (I can spare about $360 on a weapon right now).
The local store in Austin has the following two options:
Mosin Nagant: Bayonet, sling, bolt tool and cleaning kit included, cosmoline already cleaned from barrel and ready to fire, $139 out the door.
Yugoslavian SKS: Bayonet and sling included, all parts matching, cosmoline cleaned from barrel and ready to fire, $329 out the door.
I'm looking for something fun, (Thumping kickback and fireball appreciated, lol) accurate, and relatively cheap to fire. Which rifle would the O'Club suggest?
If you want an SKS, I would not get a Yugo as a First SKS. I would get any other type of SKS before I bought a Yugo.
That's just my opinion, The reasoning may sound silly but here is why.
1. Non-Chromed Line Barrels. Every SKS but the Yugos (and Early Russians) have Chromed Lined Barrels. If this is going to be the only SKS you buy... Buy a Chromed Lined Barrel!
2. Grenade Launcher is a no-no in some states. Texas should be ok, but other states you may relocate too may not be. (California has to have GL ported)
3. These are military surplus rifles and MOST Yugos saw military service in the Balkans. This goes back to the #1 Issue for me, some barrels might be shot out or dark and pitted.
4. Moving Parts... The 59/66s have a Gas Valve for the Grenade Launcher that can get fouled with Cosmoline and can break internally.
5. Weight... The extra stuff makes them heavier than any other SKS.
If I were you... And I wanted to buy an SKS... I would start with a good Chinese. You can still find these rifles for cheap (Good would be under $250) at Pawn Shops.
If you need some more help, let me know.
I've shot an M1A (Similar cartrige size to the SKS?)(http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:bU2Q-WyhLcy92M:http://www.sdnewell.com/Images/IMG_4446.jpg&t=1)
So what is the actual practical ramification of a non-chromed barrel?
Hey Serenity!
I just got a Yugo SKS for Christmas as my first rifle (not counting my 22 and musket) and I have to say, it's a blast! (No pun intended!)
The lack of Chrome lined barrel isnt really a hinder unless A) you are going to be marching around in a hot and humid jungle B) not able to fully clean your rifle after shooting (because you're marching around in a jungle!). I would take Nef's advice about the barrel being pocked and such, and would thoroughly look over the rifle before you purchased it. Mine is in relatively good shape and fun fun to shoot! The rifle grenade attachment is a bit pointless (well, for some :devil) but it is a neat addition and a good conversation starter! Also, if it is fully cleaned of the cosmoline already, then that is a deal, as I just went through the 3 hour nightmare that is a fully cosmo coated SKS the other day. I wouldnt bump the sks off your list just yet.
Though the Mosin is fun to shoot too...
As always, great advise Nef!
The store I'm buying from has these in-stock in Austin, so they're TX legal, and they DO have a chinese SKS in stock as well. He told me it was a paratrooper carbine, (He also said the chinese didn't really have paratroopers, it was just a shorter weapon). Personally, I just don't want a chinese weapon, lol. Any soviet country would be preferred.
Weight isn't a concern (I can call a day at the range extra PT, lol) but I'm not sure about that chrome lined barrel (I stumbled on the info that the Yugoslav's aren't chrome lined and why, but nothing said what effect that had). So what is the actual practical ramification of a non-chromed barrel?
Good to know! Additionally, my options may continue to expand, as I just made $200 today for next to nothing, so my budget is now up into the $550 range, lol. I appreciate the advice all!

You're in Glock range now. :rock
The big difference between the Chinese SKS and all the other countries is that not all Chinese SKS are military surplus rifles. The demand for them in the US grew so much that the Chinese started to commercially build the SKS when the military surplus rifles dried out. These came into the US as all sorts of models and variants to spice up the current SKS selection, some were modified in China but most were done here in the US.
The "Paratrooper" is a hot little piece in collectors terms. There are two main types of "Paras" one has the full length gas tube. I have a commercially built Norinco SKS-S it can be identified with shortened gas tube and I love it. If it is the same or less, price or condition wise as that Yugo; I would buy that in a heartbeat.
Glock made a rifle! :O
:noid
I'd buy one... are you not 21 Serenity?
Gotcha, and I understand you're looking for something with some historical value. Someday you'll own a Glock. :aok
Is the para-rifle something I could turn around and re-sell?
It's probably quite silly, I'll admit, but I just have absolutely no desire to own anything manufactured in Asia. It just doesn't appeal to me as an item.

Russia is Asia.

People sell guns after they buy them? :headscratch: ;)
No difference to me, just another variant. If its the ethics thing try to understand all of these rifles wear some kind of badge of tyranny or oppression, some also rock the badge of freedom and revolution. Just so much history in every variant outside of the Chinese commercial variants as I mentioned.
Russians had the oppression in Gulags and secret police in East Germany, Romanians have the 1989 Revolution where they drug Ceauşescu out into the street an shot him against a wall. The ethnic clashes in the Balkans, and the worst of all being the Chinese Genocides.
The SKS has seen it all, it's got that been there done that feeling for sure.
If you really want to buy an SKS... Any SKS... Read this BBS... It is a dedicated SKS forum. http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php
Russia is Asia.Tula is in European Russia, it looks like Izhevsk is, too.
lol. Only after a 1911 ;)
Unless you buy a knock-off a good 1911 will run you around a grand, at least around here it will.
The cheapest older production 1911 I have personally seen around here was $950 and it looked like a tank ran over, thought he missed and backed up. The nearly mint 1911 at Cabela's in the gun library was over 2k.
Again, those are the old productions. I'd love one, and eventually plan to get one, but I'd get a new production first, because it's affordable, lol.
I'd say there's nothing wrong about having a new production 1911.. As long as it's not chromed out or all silver or something silly like that... yuck!
I'm trying to decide on either a lever-action 30-30 or a bolt action 30-06 for deer. I've already killed the thought of getting a shotgun, as I never go bird hunting. So yeah, 30-30 or 30-06? I need help deciding because I'm just at a standstill.Depends on the ranges you are planning to shoot at. Anything inside of 200 yards a .30-30 is excellent. Also, with flatnosed bullets deer don't run far if you hit bone. The .30-06 is a popular round (I have both) but I have had more deer run off and have to be tracked with the .30-06 than I ever did with a .30-30. I switched to flatnose .30-06 rounds in 180 grain a few years ago and it has eliminated the problem. However, in most average hunting scenarios .30-06 is overkill for whitetails. If you ever plan to hunt out west the .30-06 , .270, or .300 are great longe range calibers.
Just got a Tula 91/30, will post pics later.
Also, Serenity bought his Yugo SKS and wanted me to tell you guys

Looks like a good Yugo! Check the Yugo code chart at survivors forums to see how old your rifle is.
Get a Metal pan, disassemble rifle, soak metal rifle parts in solvent, acetone, kerosene, brake cleaner etc...

For the barrel itself? (It would take a HUGE ammount of solvent to fill a pan large enough for the whole barrel...) And then do I whipe dry? Or just leave the solvent on?
I should of been clearer.
Reciever Cover, Bolt (Dissasembled), Bolt Carrier, Trigger Group, Operating Rod, Spring and Gas Piston. You said you cleaned the barrel already. Visually inspect Gas Block and Gas Tube to make sure there is no Cosmo there.

Make sure your Firing Pin moves freely (rattles) when you shake the Bolt and you should be good to go.
I wonder who that astoundingly good looking fellow was shooting the M44?
What are you talking about? I was shooting the 91/30! :p
Looks like the 91/30 was shooting you. :P
lol. I will say, she kicks harder than I expected!
lol. I will say, she kicks harder than I expected!
The bolt was definitely stiff (Not sure what cleaning Tupac did overnight, but I know he's planning to oil the bolt). Very nice weapon to hold!
This is the best shot of the fireball. And you can FEEL the shockwave when it goes! Whenever he shot while I was looking down at my own stripper clips, I could feel it roll over me, and it never stopped really dropping my jaw! It's an amazing feeling, and my new goal is to track down an M44 for myself!
What ammo were you using? I haven't shot mine in about a month but I don't remember it kicking that much. Hell my Mossberg 500 kicks harder then my 91/30.
It DID... and then I shot some cheap wolf ammo through her... and now she is just... gunked to hell and back...
Shiney silver firing pin: Black.
Shiney silver bolt receiver: Black.
Shiney silver bayonet: Black.
Gunk off will cut through cosmo, but won't get all of this black off. Tried Hoppes 9. Still a little grey... Last time I EVER shoot Wolf ammo.
Did you take the bolt completely apart? Cosmo needs to be removed there and will ooze out during shooting causing a mess.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B7X4IItVoI
Try Hoppes#9 and 0000 Steel Wool to remove the powder burns on the Bolt and Bolt Carrier and Bayo :)
Nice rifle. How much?... You are also missing the cleaning rod :D
