Title: Battle of Britain information
Post by: C(Sea)Bass on October 17, 2010, 08:00:23 PM
I am currently trying to compile a list of sources for a history paper on the battle of Britain. The professor requires 5 written sources, which I have, and 5 on-line sources, which I do not have. I was hoping some of you might have some RELIABLE sources I could use. I am looking for anything. It could involve plane performance, commanders involved, flight logs, anything that might be useful.

Thanks.

This looks like it might be a decent place to start.  :)

That 109 on the front page looks like he is carrying a bomb.

I could be, the Luftwaffe began using fighter-bombers towards the end of the battle, Galland talks about it a little in his book.

Quote
Between the fourth phase of the Battle of Britain - which came to an end on October 20 with the aid of day raids - and the fifth and last phase, during which targets in the British Isles were bombed by night, came the first attacks by fighter bombers, a novelty in the history of aerial warfare.

This is a link to a blog that does a daily account of the BoB:

http://thedaysofglory.blogspot.com/2010_07_10_archive.html (http://thedaysofglory.blogspot.com/2010_07_10_archive.html)

It is very well researched but very, very detailed with sources and very long - it's currently up to day 101. Hope it helps.

Currently reading a book on the BoB.

Title is With Wings Like Eagles by Michael Korda. It even goes slightly in-depth about the background and development of the Bf-109 And the Spitfire. For anyone out there, it's also an amazing history read in general
