Title: Control Surface Movement in Film Viewer
Post by: SectorNine50 on October 17, 2010, 08:45:29 PM
Not really "high priority," but I would really like to be able to see the control surfaces of the aircraft when watching films.  Not only for learning purposes, but I think it was also add a great deal to the movies that are made by the community.  It's always a bit of a bummer to watch a plane roll-over from an external view but not seeing any aileron deflection.

This has been requested before. Since we don't have it I'm guessing it's not an easy addition.

Considering a film comprises the entire data stream from the client, I don't see why not. It's actually a debugging tool, afterall.

I often wonder if there is a different model used for external vs. internal views, and that the internal model has rigging for flaps, aerilons, rudder, elevator, and the external view does not? Anyone notice in game if the aerilons, rudder and elevator move on OTHER aircraft? Usually I'm concentrating too hard on not getting shot down ;-) If not, it could be a complete model overhaul would be needed for each aircraft to set up the rigging to allow this. If so, then it's probably a much easier fix just in the film viewer.

Either way, I know I personally requested this too. +1

Flaps and gear on other aircraft for sure, not sure about the other surfaces.  I know flaps and gear show up in the film viewer as well, so perhaps you're right, that may have something to do with it.

I know that the external view for planes you are currently flying show control surface deflection,  so at minimum, the film viewer should display the control surface movements of the plane the recording is occurring from.

Something that has been wished for ever since the film viewer was released and something that is long over due to be added.  This would be of great help using the films for training.
