Title: The glorious NHL!
Post by: SuBWaYCH on October 17, 2010, 11:24:25 PM
ahh what a start to this season  :) I'll leave this open to discussion about everything

ISLANDERS! ISLANDERS! ISLANDERS! saw them play the av's saturday night, won 5-2, woot woot!  :rock

All I can tell you about the Isles is that they will not place in 15th place like the populous says they will, and that the team who signed a 1 way forward to a 100+ million dollar deal thats struggling to even put shots on the net *cough cough* Devils *cough cough* are and will be the most overrated team for a while to come.

Your talking to a diehard Rangers fan here :devil. Isles played great the other day against them the other night btw.

The Dev's empire is crumbling as I think is the Red Wing's. My prediction this year will be that both of our team's will make the playoffs allthough not go far.

I'm surrounded by bandwagon jumpers here in DC screaming OV and though it pains me to say it, they got a shot to go all the way if they find a solid goaltender.

Looking forward to a great season this year, and Ill keep you in mind when the best rivalry in sports history ( even more hated than Yankee/red sox rivalry) play each other.

BTW..POTVIN SUX  :rofl

We had season tiks for the Rangers for nearly 10 years, had to sell them when I moved to WI. Now we have the Blackhawks 2 hours away, or the Milwaukee Admirals (AHL). The only decent thing about WI hockey is the Badgers.

I miss the Garden. I miss Crazy Larry getting the fans all worked up and then almost falling off the balcony level. I miss the Gooaaaaal Song....I miss the fights on the NJ Transit trains heading back to NJ after the game cause some dumbarse in Flyers jersey is drunk and talking stupid.

Ahhhh, the good ole' days.

Islanders have way too many issues with injuries and personnel to be a significant factor.   Losing Okposo and Streit for a prolonged time is going to hurt.

(Also,  are you talking about 15th in Conference, or 15th in the league?, btw)

Looking at the Conference, I don't think you can say that the Isles have a realistic shot at anything over 12th-13th place.  Saying anything else, 5 games into an 82 game season is dreaming.  They just don't have the players.  In the East, you're not going to compete, I'm sorry to say.  Atlanta, Florida and Carolina are the only teams that you have a good chance of finishing over, and ALL of them have a bigger upside than the Islanders do over the length of schedule.

I will side with you on the Debbies for now.  The Kovalchuk sweepstakes probably killed their hopes of returning to prominence as Marty's skill set erodes, by putting all of their eggs in Illya's bags. That, and trading away Paul Martin....

Did you see that the Devils only dressed 15 skaters the other night?  The CBA states they can't do that, minimum is 18 skaters + goalies ... NHL is really trying hard to keep them in Jersey, it seems.

I miss laughing at the New Yorkers paying 10 bucks for a beer, and throwing it at anyone wearing another team's jersey. The Garden was always good for some real interesting away game stories.

I'm a Canucks fan primarily, as I refused to hop on the Red Wings bandwagon in 1996.   I grew up on Wings hockey and will still root for the home team.   But Montreal's 24 Lord Stanley Cups make it "The Hockeytown".

Kings are going to make a lot of noise this year.  My "Dark Horse" for the Stanley Cup, though I think they might need a couple more years to put it together, and get a franchise-type LW.  Excellent Team, with superior goaltending and coached extremely well.  They are going to tear up the West.

Here to hoping this year all the work and prep they've been doing over the past decade pays off, finally!   Don't know about this month but I'm hoping to make it out to the Staples center for a game or two next month if things work out.

Babalonian, it's a marathon and not a sprint.

Need not you and our past couple seasons remind me.  Look at how great of a start the Kings had the last couple seasons, and then see at some point they just gave it up.  Here's to hopin they generate a lot more salt to rub in all your wounds this year!

Back in 94 when the Rangers were making their run at the cup, a few friends and I went to watch the Devs/Rangers game 7 conference final at some dive bar in Manhatten.

One of the guys was wearing a Devil's jersey and the bartender refused to serve him wearing it in his bar  :rofl :rofl

The NHL hasn't been glorious since Bobby Orr wrecked his knees.    Fewer teams, higher quality of play etc.   And no one like Orr since.  Was fun to be a hockey fan back then.

Where's my Coleco table hockey game? :)

No big deal when you can afford a $10 beer. At one point in my life, I could. Course, I'd usually get pretty well hammered before the game, then just maintain my buzz for 3 periods.

LOL

Leafs 5-0-0  :aok

Don't think we are easy meat. We give 200% every night and it shows.

Isles 3-1-2, 8 points and currently leading the Atlantic division because of our fewer GP's and fewer regulation losses (Pittsburgh is 4-3-0), and moray I disagree with your statements regarding injuries. Yes, we even lost bailey tonight with a hip flexor (DTD), but the Isles posses such great stamina and such a fast system that its tough for opposing teams to get a grip. Toronto came out with a good strategy against us but came up short due to huge saves by Roloson.

Islanders scored 10 goals in their first 2 games, and kept the games against Washington and Pittsburgh a one goal affair. Even thought they lost both of those games, they showed they can fight against arguably the top 2 teams in the eastern conference (and in the game against pittsburgh, malkin and crosby were non factors for the most part as they were shutdown by our defensive play).

Don't count the Isles out, or Toronto, Florida, and Atlanta for that fact as well. I see good things happening for all 4 of these teams.

Great game tonight. Roloson was a beast!

Streak ends for the Leafs but still a much better start than last year.

good night of hockey, Islanders now improve to 4-1-2 with 10 points and are now in FIRST PLACE in the Eastern Conference. No Josh Bailey tonight either.

Now im starting to regret the $172 i paid for NHL Center Ice  Thats almost a whole year of AH

With all due respect to OV ( which I think is a much more solid player than Sidney Crybaby) Caps wont go anywhere this year without solid goaltending.

yea that new goalie we got is amazing his name is Neuvirth unfortunately he was sick for the 2 games against the Bruins. but in Varly's defense the Caps cant just rely on solid goaltender they need to help him out with some strong defense which they've lacked for years
