do any of you guys after beating a game, play through with self imposed rules?
for example, beating legend of zelda ocarina of time with only 3 hearts or fallout 2 with out firing a single bullet?
just want to know thoughts on this
-
I like to make it through the COD and BF series games with pistols unless you are forced to use a sniper for a particular mission.
-
GoldenEye with only the PPK.
I remember the first time I made it through Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past on one uninterrupted play through without dying once. Final tally, Games: 000
-
Ya I did that with Hitman series. Start out normal and then try the hardest, or set my own rules. Keeps it lively.
-
also for those sucked into pokemon, you can only catch the first that you see in each area, and if one faints, you must release it.
-
I have a bad habit of doing things like this. In 007 Goldeneye for the N64 I used to impose a "no bullet hole" rule where every shot hit what I was shooting at. Recently I tried playing Starcraft 2 using only Marines and Siege tanks (Unless the map forced you to use another unit in order to complete it.)

I love doing that :aok
How about doing the one Spec Ops mission where you have to sneak past patrols, but you have to speed run through it? Always good to have a friend with you. Me and my friend speed ran it in I think 40 seconds. Was hysterical.
-
I do it all the time with my games (only have ~35 so it can get dull on normal). In splinter cell I go through with only 1 gun, or using only melee. In Kingdom Hearts I went through with only the original weapon/armor, and so on. Makes games more fun. :D
-
Golden Eye and then Perfect Dark were some of the greatest games ever made.
They are re-making Golden Eye for Wii.

The only other game is Silent Hunter 3 with the grey wolf add on.
I use only realistic settings. VERY VERY HARD.
Im in a campaign that has been going on now for about 2 years. Im in 1944 now.
I do however save my stuff incase I die.

I love the silent hunter games, when I am in campaign I do not speed up the time. I set course, turn on the on board radio and just watch the waves, for hours and hours. Its more relaxing than fishing IMHO.

I do the opposite, when playing GTA san andreas for the second time i try to use the hydra fighter jet to complete as many missions as it allows me to use it for.
-
I occasionally hop back to Ace Combat 6 and fly the campaign with a dedicated bird for my wingman and I :)
-
when i play Aces High i try to never live to land a sortie! ummmmmmmm well i guess thats really not that hard for me is it????????
actually though when ever i play any video game i always play on maximum, realistic or nightmare, which ever is the highest settings. any lesser mode is just pvzzy mode!!!!!
-
Easy, when I play Rise of Flight, I go head on, and dont turn, until the end!
-
I've done this with the Mega Man series. Only used the regular gun and no E tanks.

Nice. How many of them?
-
Or beating Contra using only the pee shooter? My friend has actually done that before.

1-3 and most of 4. I became distracted and never finished it. Also Mega Man X and X2, but I think I remember having to use some of the abilities in those just because the game required it, but not 100% sure, it's been a long time. I am certain of no E tanks though.

I once played X-Com UFO Defense without allowing myself to win. Eventually every country other than the USA was subverted but I still maintained more than enough funding by shooting down every UFO and selling the salvaged parts. I refused to do the Mars mission to end the game, but the game cheated and said I lost anyways after enough time went by. Pretty lame, but it was still one of the greatest games I've ever played.

You mean someone actually BEAT Contra?

MGS4 with out ever being spotted/killing anyone. (unless it is mandatory)

Only for two players. Minus the select for one player.
Although even with 30 lives I could never even get past the first level, LOL!

Oh man I remember doing that one too, except it was on MSG1.

Lol seriously? That game was ridiculously easy. Just get the spread shooter and you can fly through the entire game without dying, once you memorize where the bad guys are. The snow level where they throw grenades and pop out of nowhere is a challenge.

I still have goldeneye for the N64. My biggest gripe about it is that you cant really do much outside the mission. Cant go into the water, cant jump to your death, cant destroy most objects, cant shoot the tires on vehicles, etc etc etc
Got old for me real fast

Dude, seriously, it was 1997. You were still a number of years off from that sort of total free-form play and physics modeling.

Yup. Still can't destroy most objects in contemporary games such as GTAIV. Games with supposedly dustructable enviornments, such as Battlefield Bad Compant 2, only have objects decompose in pre-set cookie-cutter formations. (As in a tank's main gun hitting the wall of a building has the same destructive effect as a small charge of C4, or a hand grenade.)
-
I've done it from time to time. Varies by game. Had a roommate is college try to beat Mario 2 on just 1 life. It took him months and many failed attempts and he finally did it. No warping either. Also tried to score 1000 points in NBA Live 95 with full length quarters, no fouls/penalties. Only made it to 750 or so.

Has it been that long?
Guess I expect too much with games
-
does flying EW/MW aircraft in the LWA count? plenty of the more experienced AH sticks do this.
N64 Goldeneye has got to go into the games hall of fame, its certainly in my top 3 :aok we used to see how far we could get without losing a life (with 3 goes at the timed levels.) never seen anyone get to the end doing this...
-
Another hardcore mode is flying a B25C into a hotly contested base to bomb it and trying to live in the LA-MA. :D
-
When I play my Modern Warfare 2, I actually use guns. :aok
-
In COD I always throw the sticky explosives at the head, if they get hit anywhere else and die, they get a free shot at me.
In Duke Nukem, I would use the machine gun only when on "Dam# I'm good" mode. Other times I would just use a pistol or the shotgun.

That's my new favorite game. I love it, and GWX 3.0 turns it from an amazing game to an excellent game. I don't have all the realism settings on, like no map contact update or noise-meter, but I hope to turn them off soon. I'm only in 1941 now. All my other campaigns didn't make it out of 1940. I play dead-is-dead though. It feels weird when I know that my u-boat died because of a mistake I made, and I reload a save game.
-
sometimes in BF: BC1 i play the campaign only using one vehicle, and if that one vehicle blows up, i run into the enemy line without firing my weapon. also on the helicopter mission, i hop out of the hind and do a sniper mission
-
That reminds me......
Operation flashpoint, cold war crisis
Used to make missions that were hard as hell but fun to play. All enemy choppers, jets, tanks, etc etc. Jets were hard as to me the mission editor was buggy as hell and never worked properly
-
When you start that it just proves you spend too much time playing games LOL. I only did it once and that was with a Sega Mega drive game called Cannon Fodder. In it you had a squad of cartoony troops working their way through various battles. A fun game and I tried not to lose a man in as many levels as possible. I got through four or five until it became impossible.
In modern warfare 2, I try to avoid getting hit, after all in real life even a smallish wound knocks you out but the game is designed to make it hard on you. I'm still waiting for a properly realistic game. I thought Operation Flash point was the way forward once it's bugs were refined, but no, it's MW2 that sets the standard and it isn't even slightly realistic.

MW2 is utter crap imho.
Play World at War

After the first time I won at Yahtzee, I tried again with just 4 dice.

Agreed. The hardcore arenas are great fun.

I remember going 39-0 in hardcore war. Had scavenger and the sniper scope m-1 garand
-
After finishing Faction: Guerrilla, I played my 2nd playthrough with just using a sledgehammer. Great fun banging away at the load bearing supports and watching the building fall with the bad guys all piled up inside. Borderlands, on my 2nd playthrough only used my fists and that proved to be a little tough but fun.
ack-ack

Dark reign, play using only plasma tanks and shredders.
