lookin at getting:
K7S5A - with cpu - ATHLON XP 1800+, 1.53GHZ 266MHz and fan
any quams or "uh-ohs" with this MB and chipset? should i go for the VIA chipset instead? from reports i've seen there is a small amount of performance difference, but at the savings in cost, it might be worth it.
or, i could hold out for the Nforce chipsets!! :D (i just got the itch and can't wait!)

Personally, I would have a good look at this board: http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/mainboards/msi/kt266pro2/ (http://www.hardocp.com/reviews/mainboards/msi/kt266pro2/)
Looks very sweet. And it's red! :)

I just bought the ASUS A7V266 and a 1.4GHz T-Bird a couple of weeks ago with 512MB PC2100 DDR memory. No trouble except a dead power supply in my existing case. Spent right at $400 including shipping on the stuff also.
I have heard a few people talking about the newest Gigabyte and Abit boards with the Via chipsets and they are happy with them also.

I went with the A7M266...but either one is good choice...just happened to catch a special on the M board.

From what I am reading, the best chipset (in terms of performance and reliability) is the KT266a followed by the AMD761. I would look for boards with those chipsets.

I just bought an Epox 8KHA+ and it has the VIA266a chipset. You can get it with a athlon XP1700, coolmaster fan and heatsink, for $285 at royal computers

The MSI has the 266a bios and an IDE raid controler built in. Tempting to stay with asus cause they have never done me wrong but raid would be cool.
