Title: Why does finnish brewster have US skins?
Post by: Perrine on October 26, 2010, 07:24:29 PM
I think there should be no US skins on a Finnish aircraft!

how hard is it to just create another minor variants like F2A-3 and  B-339C/D/E ?

Could be this has been discussed before...as it was.  Might check the skinners forum and use the search bit.

I asked Pyro which Brewster skins would be allowed before I did them. He said USMC, RAF, Dutch and Australian skins were OK. The only ones that were not allowed were US Navy ones, presumably because that version operated off carriers and our Brewster does not have a hook. Also USN Brewsters saw little or no action in WW2.

Allowing non-Finnish skins in the MA does no real harm except encouraging "the Brewster is overmodelled" argument that's going round. I agree completely that the much lighter Finnish Brewster would be out of place in a scenario based in the Pacific theater. To the best of my knowledge its never been used that way.

Creating an F2A-3 wouldn't be too hard. The nose is a bit longer which would involve a bit of 3D remodelling, otherwise its just a question of researching and reworking the flight and damage models. The question is, would it be worth the effort? No one except a complete masochist would choose the heavier Brewster over the Finnish one in the MA. So the only point would be for a handful of special events, i.e Midway and Singapore.
