Title: Frame Rate bench mark for AH
Post by: Ripsnort on July 07, 2000, 08:36:00 AM
I haven't seen anyone post a benchmark for checking FR so I will do the honors:

~Offline, go to A1, time of day default.

~Select B17 1000 lb bombs

~select South spawn point of runway and select fly

~Check Frame rate counter looking straight ahead, write number down.

~Start engines

~Check Frame rate counter looking left, write number  down.

~Check Frame rate counter looking right, write number down.

Post your Resolution, Bitmap color (16, 32) and your 3 numbers for your FR marked appropriately, and what your system and video card is.

I would like to see some results of other OS, I just upgraded to a PIII-550 and want to compare to see if I'm optimizing my system.

This will possibly also  help future players for reference in optimizing their systems by bench marks of other OS.

Thanks!

Heya Rip, this has been discussed before, and there was a 'procedure' established. Been a while tho, a search will prob bring up the old threads.

I remember going to the belly turret gave me the lowest FR reading, and especially when looking at the tower. We were defaulted to only one direction of take off back then, and I remember having to rotate to the left to get tower in view (I think hehe).

Anyway, do a search of this NG and see what comes up.

Good point Jihad, so discard  the side views, go with front view as standard , ya think?

Will do Tshred, as jihad pointed out, I doubt the POV views each player has set up will do much good ie. turret view.  Will check it out.

I have a PIII-550, 128 meg ram, Creative TNT2 Ultra, running 1024 res with 32 bit.  I can only get 24 FPS in this benchmark, only a 5 FPS improvement over my old PII-350 chip...weird, expected better performance than that, maybe more ram! Dunno.

I forgot to add my V770 is overclocked-memory 185,core 150. Also from past benchmarking related to WB it was found that higher FSB also makes a difference in FPS benchmarks,my FSB is at 75 with a 1/1 divider 37.5mhz AGP bus speed vs your 33mhz AGP bus speed with a 2/3 divider, every little bit helps.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hi folks,
Fradim has benchmark page with a protcol for AH and a results table. Go to  www.grandeavenida.com/fps (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps)  and go to the AH page. That said, I think we need to bump heads to develope a better protocol as the one used there has the clipboard open which tends to flatten results to the lo end. It also uses cntrl-C to turn off ground clutter
which can vary results widely.

WRT jihad's results, it's not the 256MB RAM. He is a master tweaker and has used a 3rd party utility called AGP Info to change the RAM timings and other AGP settings of the BX440 chipset to obtain his excellent performance. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) I have a post titled : Performance and the V770 Ultra, which gives an overview on getting the most from your system. It does not include the AGPinfo tweak
but hits most other points for improving performance. Start there and see what you can get from your box. If you want the AGPinfo utility I will send it to you but I have not used it yet and it is fairly complicated and requires an understanding of how the chipset works that is more than most folks have (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) There are no instructions for what settings to make so you really need to know what you're doing to achieve success and not blow up your box. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Everything on my box is pushed way over spec already so I didnt want to risk it right now and you really need to do some reading up on the chipset functions before you can expect to do it right.
We should all work out a suitable protocol and post our results to Fradim's page. He deserves alot of credit forhis workand it could and should be an excellent resource for evaluating performance of your present rig and informing any future purchases. No time right now to do the benchmark right now but I'll post back later.

21in trinatron 75 refresh rate , most times it's maxed out in flight (75fps) . But we hit base 20 in tanks on Sunday and one time when the battle was really smoking it droped to 7 fps .    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) but sids went to 2 at that time , thats with rw running too .

But I think you might be missing one thing , don't u think how big the monitor is makes a differance (more pixels to draw) ? I know the refresh rate does .

Hi, guys :-)

I know kbman already told u about Aces high Benchmark Site (thx kbman). But Iīd really apreciate if you could have a look there: www.grandeavenida.com/fps/index.cfm?Game=2 (http://www.grandeavenida.com/fps/index.cfm?Game=2)

So far only 10 have posted their results. Sure itīs not much compared to Warbirds version. But itīs just a begining. With your help we can make it more useful :-)

And, please, if you donīt agree with that benchmarking protocol I would be pleased to change it. After all, this site is intended to be useful for ah community  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) BTW, ah protocol was proposed in this thread: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum1/HTML/002124.html (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/Forum1/HTML/002124.html)

Hi Rip,

I recommend Kbman's suggestion, and visit tweak3d. Yesterday I did your test and scored;
Front 24 (note; 20 after left right)
Left 31
Right 34
With my stock c466, and v770 32mb(stanard), 64mb ram, in 1024x768 32 bit

Today, the c466 is at 525, and the v770 is 150/185, with 128mb ram, and I scored;
Front 26 (22 after left right)
Left 41
Right 43
Things didnt start really improving till the v770 got O/C'ed. I did your test throught out my tweaking. The jump from 64mb to 128mb at 466, showed no improvement. 128mb @ 525 gave me a few FPS left and right.
I read the tweak3d article on TNT/TNT2 tweaking, and adjusted my Bios, turned up all the bells and whistles, then O/C'ed the card. I had the card up to 160/190 with no problems, but backed off abit. I also enabled Vsynch and set my refresh to 75mhz. After goofin around a little, Im looking at a better picture and a higher frame rate  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Now I need more, more, more  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Gotta read up on this swap file thingy  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
