:rofl That's a good one. I AM concerned however, about the Solar storms coming in Summer 2012. Supposed to be the strongest in ages. And, we have a hole in our magnetic field.
The Sun will be at the center of the Universe come the Winter Solstice 2012. Who knows what will occur (if anything).
But all we can do is wait to see what happens :)

The centre of the universe, eh? I had no idea we had telescopes powerful enough to see to the every corner of the universe, or light sources in said corners to see by.

The Sun will be at the center of the Universe come the Winter Solstice 2012.

And I shall transform into an energy being with more power in my little pinkie than the sun could ever imagine...

Food for thought:  any point in space is the center of the universe.

To the best of our knowledge, at least.

We've had solar storms (and many many more incorrect apocolypse theories) before. Life is still here. I'm unsure how one feels they can predict such events with any degree of accuracy, which should help to discredit psuedo-sciences such as these theories, yet people like you actually worry about them.  :rofl

I forget where I heard it, but it was said that man has always thought the end of the world would occur within that persons lifetime. err somethin like that

Not center of the universe, the sun will be aligned with the center of the galaxy (from our vantage point, of course).

Actually our sun will still be out on one of the outer arms of the Galaxy. If it went to the center we would all be hosed.  :aok

Center of the solar system perhaps... I would imagine it would be quite difficult to calculate the exact center of your galaxy with any kind of precision...

Two points to ponder.

1. Any point in space is the center of the universe.
2. Earth is always lined up with the center of our galaxy.  Always has, always will.

As a bonus point: what year (our calendar) does the mayan calendar actually ends.  Hint: is not 2012.

K it actually was a trick question.  Mayan calendar doesn't end, it resets and starts all over again.

Correct, perhaps I wasn't clear:

December 21st 2012 Common Era: the light from our sun (Sol) will appear to be alligned with the center of our galaxy (the Milky Way), from our vantage point on earth.  Some worry that this combined light may have negative effects, and might even end the world.

However, we will only know on that  (possibly fateful) day, no sooner, no later.

Kinda wondered with all this Mayan calendar brouhaha -

If the Mayans were so incredibly insightful that they could foretell the end of the world, why'd their culture fall?

I always thought it of looking like a question mark

you know once you think about it, the earth and the sun line up with the center of the galaxy every year. even if we were on a different axis wouldnt we start feeling the effects by now and 2012 be the high point of the exposure? right?

Wrong, the idea is that they are on vastly different axes, and that on this particular day, they will align.  Who knows what will happen, I'm betting on nothing.  Here's why:

The sun, it shines on us every day, and so does the galactic center, just because they aligned wouldn't do anything other than obscure the former with the latter.

If you really want to shake things up....google Project Bluebeam and read for about 30 minutes.  It's all very :noid :noid :noid but the points they bring up are just a little too plausible if you consider current events.
