Title: CH Gameport vs. USB vs. WinXP
Post by: Eagle327 on October 31, 2001, 07:06:00 PM
Greetings all !

Used CH-Pro throttle, CH-Pedals, CH-Jane's-Combat stick, CH-SpeedKeys, under Win98SE, on HP P3-450 MHz, 128MB, viper 550-16MB, worked great but only 12 fps engaged, 1024x768x16, clutter OFF, F3 scenery.

Just setup new screamer HP P4-1.7 GHz, 512MB, G-Force3-64MB, under WinXP, same AH video settings, getting 76 fps engaged.

PROBLEM:
New Keyboard is USB connector style.
All CH devices are 6-pin "round" gameport style.  So...used my old PS/2-101 keyboard. Works ok, but all CH 34 button & hat positions are DEAD and SPEEDKEYS cannot find joystick. ONLY X,Y and Z axis and CH-Pro Throttle power control work.
CH setup requires Keyboard plug into CH into PC.

Did the SpeedKeys "Hard-reset" of CH-Pro Throttle but no joy.

Any assistance is welcome.
Thanks,
Eagle327

I have the same stick setup.  I run XP pro AND I have a small partion with 98se on it.  Why do i have a 98 partion you ask?  Cause speed keys does not work with WIN XP.   I sent a letter to Ch asking if they had any plans of making speed keys work with XP and they told me flat out  NO !   " the industry has moved away from the gameport in favor of USB, so , Ch has decided not to support non-USB joystick software in the New windows XP "

Wish I had some good news for you, but I don't.  The answer I got from CH left a rather bitter taste in my mouth which might cost them a customer when it's time to replace my current setup.

PS:  IF you have a copy of windows 98 and a copy of win XP, send me a private message and I'll help you setup a Dual boot system.

Thanks Vati.
I have CD#1 and#2 for Win98, but WinXP Home Edition is all on HD in a protected sector or  partition.  No CD's are provided by HP whom preloaded this new puter.

Will this do ?

Convert CH's old analog gameport gear to USB with this:
 http://www.rockfire.com.tw/fram_accessory2.htm (http://www.rockfire.com.tw/fram_accessory2.htm)

I bought three ($11.00 US each) of them from this guy:

Thanks Westy.
Do you think this RocFire will work with my WinXP-HomeEdition as well as the stated Win98 and WinME ?
