Title: Prop Pitch

I think this issue is sensitive in AH so I hesitate to post but here goes anyways.
Is there a key that will change your propellor pitch up and down?

The + and - keys on your numeric keypad.

Also, if you open your E6B on your clipboard while in flight, it lists the settings that will allow you to get the most power, cruise, or best distance from the fuel you have remaining.

I guess I don't see how/why that would be a sensitive subject in AH, but even if it was, this is the Help and Training section where folks are supposed to ask the questions they have, and other folks are supposed to help them with an answer.  You can help yourself by doing searches for answers that have already been posted, but that's not an actual "requirement".  Also, if you haven't already done so, I'd recommend visiting the Trainers site http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/ , and reading up...  Of particular interest in regards to this question may be the keyboard quick reference guide at http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/quickref/quickref.pdf

Prop pitch is kind of automatic in AH. When you have your throttle set at a certain position and want RPM to decrease, you use the RPM controls. What actually happens is the prop pitch increases, which increases load on the prop, slowing it down. When you go from max throttle to idle you notice the RPM stays the same, because the prop pitch is automatically adjusted.

you can also map it to an analogue controller too. I have it on a trim pot on my throttle and use it all the time :aok

Not directly (in the WWII aircraft, at any rate - perhaps the WWI aircraft which I don't fly and am less familiar with.)

WWII aircraft are modeled with constant speed props, which in most (I'd say all, but someone would find that one instance where the earliest variant had a variable pitch rather than constant speed prop and prove me wrong ;) ) cases is exactly what they had.

So if you are asking "generally", all of the above is correct.  If you are asking specifically, then "no".

Almost all WWII aircraft had variable pitch props. Some were two position and others had wider range of pitch controllable by the pilot. Hamilton Standard was a major supplier of US props, using a design by Frank Caldwell, who developed his hydraulic design in 1929.

We don't have true prop pitch control, just like we don't have mixture control, cowl flaps and some other functions. If we did, are we also going to introduce engine failures from pilot error in using these controls?

It isn't a sensitive issue. There are trade-offs in the game (it is not a simulator) that are conscious decisions to make the game more fun and not bog the player down in engine and other control functions. There are no random incidents of mechanical, electrical or weapon failures. There is no need to cage gyros before aerobatic maneuvers or to switch on blowers, heaters for the gunsights or gun heaters to reduce high altitude gun failures.

Good point Rolex. If this game was 100% realistic as far as the control and "fine tuning" of props and other gadgetry, we would have people dropping out of the sky just trying to lean out on the way up! :airplane:

Having flown some WWII era aircraft I sure do wish they had some of the stuff that is automated in game. Would have made life easier and less scary on those dark and stormy nights.
