Title: Extreme loading times closing, opening, or disco when alt-tabbing the game

quad core intel
6gb ram
dual ati radeon 4800's
current drivers
windows vista 64bit home edition

if i try to alt tab i disco as it takes a full min to tab out to desktop and another min to tab back in

when loading the game it takes a few minutes to load and the computer is locked up for the duration of this.

when closing the game same thing happens. game stops responding pc is locked up for a minute while game closes.


any ideas?

Im not saying this is it but it sounds the same to me. I updated video drivers and when I cleaned the system of the old drivers I failed to update driver cleaner and it didnt get all the files. Updating DC fixed it but I had to go through the whole update process again. That was with Nvidia though.

I have seen Vista do this.  The only way I have seen to fix it is to re-install the operating system.

uninstalled old ati drivers and installed the new ones. still massive delay loading stuff

is there a way to uninstall and reinstall vista while leaving programs intact?

if nothing else works, try this:

1. uninstall ALL AH2 files.
2. clean up your HDD of all TEMP files, uninstall old unused programs and clean up your registry. (i use ccleaner.)
3. defrag your HDD. i used jkdefrag the last time. (http://filehippo.com/software/system_tuning/defrag/)
4. reinstall AH2 with all default files.
5. start it up.

thats what made mine work faster the last time. good luck!

formatted hard drive installed vista from scratch.

ah still takes forever to load and I dc in a 5 min screen freeze if i try to alt tab still.

any ideas?

will windows 7 make this go away or do i have a hardware malfunction?

I have a long time for textures to fully load and get CNT=0. If I alt-tab and takeoff immediately, I can usually get to 10k before they fully load.
I'm at the other end of the computer spectrum with a dinosaur that lives at minimum specifications, running XP.
I had it loaded in Program files and it was suggested I reload and let it go into "C:\HiTech Creations\Aces High\aceshigh.exe" which I did and no different.
