Somewhere I read that 98 cannot handle 512 megs. Is that right?
-
really??? I thought it could handle up to 4Gb, or is that W2K I'm talking about?
-
Win98 will give "out of memory" errors if you go to 768 MB. THis can be fixed by editing certain system files.
I wouldn't bother with 512 MB of ram in win98, unless you need it for photoshop or video editing (in which case you should be in win2k or xp :) ). You aren't going to notice any difference in AH or most games, that's for sure. Windows itself will not be any faster. (I've heard WW2ONline is a ram pig and will eat up 512 MB though, so if you play that game it might help.)

YOYO,
Win98 cant handle 512mb, but win98se and up will :)
-
Win98SE can certainly use more than 512MB, and you're right, WWIIO runs much better with more than 512MB. In fact, 512MB would be a good minimum requirement for that game.
-
ah.. yeah.. win98se... that's the one that
can handle 4Gb then... :)
but why run win98? w2k and xp are better.
-
I've got 512mb in Win98 and working good.
Definately can see change to better from 256mb :)
Win98 is at least something I know.. those new bugs and 'features' in newer windowses scares me.
W2K for example isn't exactly 100% compatible with the games.
XP again is big and theres still driver problems. (how surprising...)

YOYO
Win98SE in benchmarks is still the fastest 3d gaming OS going.
If you want to install XP or W2k I suggest you setup a dualboot machine, that way you can get the best of both worlds. :D
