I'd like to introduce myself. Skuzzy, I am the chief cook and bottle washer at AppLink Corp. The guys that are responsible for hosting the HTC server.
I just started flying in the training arena and am getting my wings wet.
I will be monitoring the BB for posts about network related information and also invite you to use my email address for sending in queries, or at least copying me on queries about the network performance.
Like HTC, we want feedback. The Internet is not a stable beast, but a vary dynamic beast. At AppLink we qualify aspects of network performance as follows:
hiccups: These occur when a route may change or a new block of IP addresses are brought up on the Internet and are being used for the first time. They ususally last a few seconds and are unavoidable.
burps: When a router needs maintenance, anywhere on the Internet, and routes have to be re-routed to bypass the inflicted router, a loss of connections occurs and can last anywhere from 3 seconds to 20 seconds.
belches: This occurs, most likely, when a router loses its connection due to something done at the telco office. These can last from 20 seconds to hours, but once past 1 minute, it becomes a fart.
farts: The most serious of temporary outages. A combination of all the above, parts of all the above, or some other human/technical error has occurred, without warning, and usually not intended.
Anything past the above is just serious breakage and causes me to lose a lot of sleep.
Maybe you don't care, but I thought I woul let you know how we rate things.
I will also be testing various video cards and drivers with the sim and will post info about this.
Just wanting to help out. We do care about the quality of service and, like the HTC guys do about their sim, we make our best effort to let people know about Internet problems which could effect connections.
As a side note; HiTech and I had a good laugh this morning when we looke at the download stats from last night. I can't tell you what it means to design a network to withstand a high load and then have the oppertunity to see it actually work, without a single hiccup, burp, fart or anything remotely related.
One thing to note. We use 2 different servers to deliver the updated sims. One goes over the same connection the gaming server uses, and the other uses another Internet connection. This server delivers the new sims and updates through the WEB site (correct me if I wrong here HiTech). I would suggest getting new versions from this server, simply because it will help to offload the gaming server and its connection, which will make for better performance of the sim for those wanting to play that new download. Just a suggestion. Whatever is the best for you, by all means, use it.
Thank you for your attention and I hope to see you all online soon, as soon as I can figure out how to consistently land without crashing.

Will do, as soon as the training arena is back online.
I understand the mechanics of flight very well, but have not actually had anytime in the cockpit. Still adjusting my joystick parameters.
I wanna spend time getting to know the aircraft well before dropping in on the real action.
I would hate to muck up a battle with the lack of knowledge I currently posess.

LOL. I like to keep it a bit loose around here. Lot of pressure on the folks here, so we need to have a bit of fun from time to time.
I figure you guys could appreciate the terms we use around here.

Good deal. Just keep in maind, no ISP has control of the Internet, but if there is a problem, it sometimes help to get word from your side of the fence.
No matter how good we do our jobs, user feedback is the most important tool we have at our disposal.

Heck, already am. I love this stuff. I also respect the fact that there are some very good pilots here and if I am covering a wing, I want to be able to do the best that I can, so I will be in training for a while.

LOL! My poor wife already puts up with me and my wierd hours. What's a few more hours. Besides I want to be able to hear from everyone online.
Sometimes things are said that might trigger an idea on how we can make it all work better. That's what I am looking for, besides having a good time getting ripped from the skies.

You know, during my download of 1.02 last night I was worried whether I would be able to get it, due to the fact that 1000 other people all wanted it at the same time. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)
In the end it turned out that there was no need for worry, your network performed flawlessly. Thank you!

We were worried too. Ya just never know how things are gonna be until it really happens. Ya can plan, test and otherwise. No matter how much ya plan, the real world has a way of mucking up the works.
We all breathed a sigh of relief and had a good laugh this morning.
The thanks are appreciated, and will be passed on.
Look forward to seein all of you in the skies,.....once I find the latch on the cockpit. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Glad to hear skuzzy!
I put a mirror up here for those who came to the MG first, I recived 130 hits on it for the update. Since it was specifically for west coast/asia users is there any chance of a real mirror site being setup for europe off the website?

Hossa Skuzzy,
thx for the informatiom & glad to have u here. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Don't spent too much time in TA, best training is the real life experience ( in the virtual skies).
You will be shoot down alot wheter you use a trainer or not and in MA you can at least draw the fire , just as i do, aaarrgghhhh (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

That is pretty much up to the HTC guys. We only do what they want and suggest ways to help offload the game server.

No problem on the info.
Oh make no mistake, I am looking forward to getting into the real action, but....if I am depending on a wingman to cover me, I would like to think he/she knows how to fly and how ACM works.
I know flying against better pilots will only serve to make me better, but I would like to think I know enough about the plane I am flying to at least give that better pilot a challenge.
For me, being the very competitive person that I am, there is more gratification in defeat when I have been beaten by a better pilot, rather than being shot down because I forgot where the flap button on the keyboard was. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
The reverse is also true for me. More gratifying to shoot down a pilot who is equal or better, rather than a pilot who did not know he could not do a horizontal 360 degree turn in a P51 when he is 2000 feet off the deck. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Like in the real word, no one puts a pilot into a combat plane and tells em, "Okay rookie go shoot something down", without training the stuffin out of him/her first.
I work hard and I play hard and I do not like to lose. When I am ready, you will see me in the MA and, with any luck/skill you will have that view of me as you are ditchin your aircraft because I put too many holes in ya (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif).
