So far, while not 100% true to the comicbook series, is pretty well done. Much better done, in fact, than any recent zombie movie ("Zombieland" being the exception). It pulls no punches, but doesn't seek to be a simple gore-fest for gore's sake.

What is something like that doing on AMC?
That is why, when the local comcrap changed it's programming removing that channel unless you get a box, I did not worry about it. I used to love that channel.
-
I'm enjoying it so far, I did find some of the dialogue on the 2nd episode to be really bad, almost painful to watch. All in all though it seems well done.
-
Yeah I've been liking it, I mean were only 2 episodes in so hopefully it will stay good.
-
I caught the first episode, and i was impressed. Is the series only about the 1 guy, or is a different person each episode?

The sheriff character does run into some other survivors in the 2nd episode who I think will stick around for a little while but I'm assuming he's the main character.

I'm on the fence on this one. I think it has some potential but it's a bit too early to tell. I do like that they are the shambling type vs the fast runners like the movie 28 Days that was broadcast last week. They do seem to have a lack of appetite for braaaaaains though..... So far no plot indication of length of time the zombies can stay mobile.
I missed most of the first episode but got all of the second. I am kind of miffed that the deputy didn't use some of the tools he had available in that tank. The 50 cal on the top of the turret can be operated from inside. That could have thinned out the crowd a bit. The turret also has manual traverse so the 30 cal coax could have been used too.
The "disguise in smellovision" was pretty neat but the rain wouldn't have really washed it off.

I miss the old AMC, but I have to admit I really like the original programming they are producing. Breaking Bad, Mad Men and now The Walking Dead. Very good stuff.
-
Also look at it this way, it's not "reality" programing. :rofl
-
OH FFS....why??? Why is it so hard to put quality shows out these days?

I didn't watch any of those. While they garnered a lot of attention i just was not interested. I would much rather watch an old movie channel. Granted AMC is by far not the only cable channel to fall off the wagon.

I think they have something making there own shows! So far I like most of them.
Better then just the same old movies over and over again :aok

I haven't read the graphic novels but I'm going "hmmmm" over the "zombies" so far. Too fast for "walkers". Yes, they are walking... really fast walking. Too smart too. They were using "tools", rocks, to try and break into the store the survivors were trapped in.
Mostly, I've read, the series is supposed to be more of a study of the characters in a post-apocalyptic situation, which is beginning to emerge in the second episode with the red neck.
Also, I'm sure something will happen when the Sheriff shows up at the camp his wife and kid are at.

Yup, mrs. deputy doesn't seem to be working hard at keeping the famliy together is she.......

Great show but yea I am troubled over the same thing.
Watching it with my daughter. Shes a horror movie nut. Makes for good family time for us. With my RL Nickname being "Gomez" would this really surprise anyone? LOL
Anywho. Watching the show raises a couple of questions about zombies and the show with us.
1 Why arent animals like rats or other animals that are often used for medical testing before humans also turning into zombies?
2 since zombies are dead. How long before they die or fall apart through natural decomposition?
3 How long before on the show to they take a zombie as a sort of a pet?

yea. Specially since its only supposed to have been like a month or so since this all started.
Orrrr
Were they having an affair already BEFORE this happened and now they think hubby is conveniently out of the way?

Hey, I watched that movie a few months ago, pretty enjoyable, but then I'm a big zombie geek. Like I always say, there's no such thing as a bad zombie movie. It's called Fido, worth checking out. Tim Blake Nelson even has a zombie girlfriend in that one. Good stuff.
As for the series, I love it. Excellent effects and the walkers are a bit nastier than the Romero ones, but not a lot more so. They seem to move a bit quicker when they're after something, without the fast running that the rage zombies in 28 days later do. Good balance if you ask me.

Hahaha i was thinking the same thing, one would hope so OR she really didnt love the guy :rofl now i wonder if the sheriff is going to hook up with the blond in the dept store ( who is probally the other dudes chick) oh life is hard in zombie land :rofl

Well if you saw the beginning, the Sheriff was telling his friend how they were having serious trouble in their relationship, but that he still loved her. I don't think she was sleeping with his friend behind his back, I'm pretty sure that developed after they thought he was dead. I am also pretty sure it's been more than a month after he got shot. They talked about the refugee center in Atlanta that was broadcasting on the radio for a while but then had quit over a month ago. I'd bet he was in the coma for 3 to 5 months at a guess.

how many entered the code for a chance to be on next seasons show? lol i did, could be fun

Naaa. Remember that othe dud is supposed ot be that cops partner and best friend.
the cop woulda known who she was.
I think he may end up with the blond. But only after a major confrontation with his wife and partner.
what about the guy handcuffed on the roof. He's gonna make it for a couple of reasons. He's a known star.
The black dude chained and locked the roof door so the zombies have no way to get to him. Question is how he is going ot manage to get to the toolbox with the hacksaw that the black guy knocked over when he went back with the key he dropped?
Me personally. I'd have lowered him down on a rope to a just out of reach height of the zombies to attract them as a diversion when they went for the truck.
But I have a kind of twisted sense of humor that way. LOL

Nothing like the old reliable distract the <insert random critter here> with live bait routine. Also it would have for some good tv. :rofl

This way you know where you stand in the grand scheme of things.

I like the addition of these zombies using "tools", shows they can still remember basics, like that zombie wife who would go up to the door. Gives it a more mysterious tone, will the zombies become smart enough to fire a weapon?
I'm not sure about you guys, but i like it.

Yeah, I noted the use of the rock on the glass doors and thought that an unnecessary plot hole; I've read some of the comic book series, and that was not in there IIRC. These zombies are faster than what was depicted in the comic books, too. There were a couple other plot holes I've noticed, but they escape right now. Regarding your other questions...
1) Note that viruses only rarely jump species, so this is not surprising that they haven't run into other species who've been infected. It's one of the reasons medical science has such problems curing viruses; research on animals is of limited value. One example of a cross-species virus is ebola (certain simians and humans). Another is leprosey, which in all the animal kingdom only seems to affect humans and armadillos.
2) This is a good question. If you consider Max Brook's to be an authority (author of "The Zombie Survival Guide" and "World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War"), his version of events writes that the zombie virus makes the zombified flesh toxic to other living creatures, such as the bacteria that tends to break down dead flesh. This tends to slow the decomposition process down to a crawl.
3) Wait for an upcoming episode...

It seems amazing! I loved both the shooting, and waiting for what would happen next while the characters further fleshed out the story!

Loved that movie too, pleasantly surprised as I expected a very "B" movie experience. Loved the alternate reality 50s feel!
