Was the Wright R-3350 ever tested in fighters?
The R-2800 weighed 2360 lbs dry. The R-3350 weighed 2670 lbs dry. I'm using specs from the internet. So they are probably near misses.
R-2800-32(E) - 2,450 hp (1,827 kW), 2,850 hp (2,125 kW) with water-methanol injection
R-2800-63 - 2000 hp<------------------P-47D
R-2800-57 - 2,800 hp (2,090 kW)
R-2800-57C - 2,800 hp (2,090 kW)<--P47M
R-2800-73 - 2,800 hp (2,090 kW)
R-2800-77 - 2,800 hp (2,090 kW)<----P47N
Not sure the last four of these versions were available in the 43-44 time period.
R-3350-23 : 2,200 hp (1,600 kW)<---B29
R-3350-32W : 3,700 hp (2,800 kW)
R-3350-42WA : 3,800 hp (2,830 kW)
R-3350-89A : 3,500 hp (2,600 kW)
R-3350-93W : 3,500 hp (2,600 kW)

Hi Ya Bustr,
Curtiss was fond of the 3350, but I don't think any of their fighter applications made it into production.
Oh, and of course Douglas stuck them in Skyraiders.
See ya :)

Rats not even some bored vets in Nevada hopping up a P47 with one of those. You ever take a close look at the inboard nacell on ther B29. Its big enough almost to slap some wings and a tail on it by itself.
