Pics and description fowarded to me by a friend...
Thought you might appreciate this....last Thursday we took 5 of the 7 flying
P-38s from Chino to the Sacramento Capital airshow at Mather for the weekend
show. John Maloney flew chase in our P-51... first we joined up over Lake
Mathews for a quick and dirty photo shoot, then climbed up and headed North.
Along the way Hinton decided we would buzz Shafter, where his son was
preparing "Stega" for Reno .. so we went whistling by their hangar line a
breast at about 300 and pulled up and came around single ship .... climbed
back up and joined up..
then on to Fresno. The Air Museum's P-38 " 23Skidoo" cracked a head, so we
followed her to descent at FAT and pressed on ..... then about 10 out of KMHR
Hinton again decided on some tom foolery and we did a super low echelon pass
at Sander's private strip before we headed to KMHR for a fan break with the
Mustang with 5 cameras rolling ... At one point in the flight Maloney came
from behind in the Mustang and dove down to our right and pulled up into a
giant exagerated barrel roll over the rather loose goose formation, so the
camera man could snap a photo thru the canopy of the mustang as he was
inverted over the P-38 flight ..... what a fun deal that was ...... here's a
few of the shots .. hope you're all well.
All the best.

LOL CAP, I'm a LALA dweeb and I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw that pic!
The 38 is my son's favorite warbird, and truth be told mine as well... I'm just not good enough in it to live in it in the MA....

which 38 was hinton flying?
Probably "Glacier Girl", when the Schoffner family owned it, the insurance policy required that the only pilot in command allowed was Steve Hinton.

There are people who can resolve that issue for you, all you need do is ask.

Doubtful. The elite p38's pilots in this game were born with an ability that cannot be taught. Either you have it or you don't.

You don't have to be elite to live flying the P-38, you just have to be fairly smart, and a decent pilot. It can be taught.

I don't fly it anymore but when I did it was the funnest thing ever just sitting in the da all day learning that beautiful plane.
