In 1976, it sold for $666.66, out of Jobs garage (well, his parents garage technically) It is estimated to sell for $250k.
8k of ram!
Auction house Christie's will auction off the very first Apple computer in London this month.
The computer, called the Apple-1 and introduced in 1976, will come complete with a signed letter from Mr. Jobs himself. It even comes in its original packaging, although the device never included a power supply, keyboard, monitor, or even casing. All of the components that the original model did come with are there, though, making the find even rarer.
Estimates indicate that somewhere around 200 of these computers were sold in the year or so it was available. But few remain at all, and especially in the condition of this particular model.
Originally selling for $666.66 (what was up with that?) the computer could very well auction for as much as a quarter-of-a-million dollars when it goes up for bidding on November 23.
This is the ultimate item for the Apple fanboy. Consider the decades, technological innovations, and engineering research and developments that sit in between this device and something like the iPad.
They're probably quite similar in size, but in terms of functionality...it's amazing how far we've come.
