Title: Working on period clip maps for the new strats...
Post by: oneway on November 16, 2010, 06:00:03 PM
I began work on creating the clip maps for the strats at the new City Complex...as it is now there are no maps depicting the new layouts of the strat facilities..only an over view of the whole city complex..

Map is made by taking screen grabs inside of the Mission Editor then working some graphics on them to create clip maps consistent with the new 'Period' style maps now in game...

Here is the city done...working on the others (Fuel, Radar, Troop, AAA and Ammo

Anyone interested in the full map pack let me know via pm....I will have it done this weekend

Reduced and color corrected for in game use...

Exceptional!

But I have to betray my ignorance and ask what the

I was told you could actually destroy the Flak Towers in the Capital.  So you really can't then?  There have been a couple of times where I dropped 2 1k lb bombs on one and it did NOTHING.  I would figure at least the guns would go poof....

It is a Headquarters 'style' object as the indestructible for the city...there are three distinct flak towers within the entire city complex...this stands in as one type...and incidentally I missed a second one that is located in grid K-10

Hawk is right...91'st bomb group for the Triangle A...Salute Hawk  :salute

Thanks all....appreciate the comments...next to be rolled out will be the Fuel Factory...

Steely

Absolutely...

This is for the entire community...and especially the guys into events and historical stuff to flesh out the immersion...

Unfortunately for now most of the special events arena's are still using the old style strat stuff...but over time I am sure that will be updated...

I finished the entire pack and will post the link here and all asking for PM's will get a link back to this thread and that post...

Here is the finished package...

Note: I am a little up in the air on what is and is not indestructible...so for now I have left them out...

http://www.cadframers.com/ah/clip_map_pack.zip (http://www.cadframers.com/ah/clip_map_pack.zip)

I kind of rushed the last couple of maps and didn't pixel blend the edges, but you can hardly tell...

Included in the pack is a read-me.txt file with instructions on how to incorporate these maps into your game experience...

Contents of the read-me file:

Instructions:

Extract the contents of this zip file...

Copy all of the *.bmp files and paste them into your Aces High \maps\ directory...

Included is a modified "deault.lst" file...which is the default menu info when your in game...

By including this *.lst file, you won't even have to go through the trouble of manually getting these to work..

The default.lst file will handle all of that for you automatically...

If you already have custom clipboard maps then skip the *.lst file as this will overwrite your current settings...

For 99% of the guys who have never made changes to their clip maps...include it in the copy paste routine and your good to go

If you do not want to use the included default.lst file...then you must add them manually

Instructions for adding clip maps manually are as follows:

1) Copy the bitmap files to your \maps directory
2) Load up the game (offline or online)
3) Pull up the clip board
4) Right click and choose 'Clipboard Maps' from the drop down menu
5) Choose 'New' map
6) Select the file from the file drop down box
7) Name it
8) Apply the changes
9) Repeat for each map you want to add to the clip map collection

Thanks MachFly & Reschke...

An interesting sidebar to this little effort was leveraging the terrain editor and creating a terrain that had a "Magenta" colored tile for terrain texture of type 'Grass'...

Replacing the default grass texture tile with magenta color allowed me to take screen grabs from the modified terrain in the mission editor...and then transform those images by replacing everything in a 'Magenta' range with a Transparent color...this let me cut out the stuff such as roads and buildings...and in essence allowed me to discard everything in the image that was superfluous...

Once I figured out how to do that the rest was cake...

oneway,

Any plans to doing the same for the airfields, ports, towns and vehicle bases?
I know our squad would certainly benefit from your period style maps.

Please consider making them up as well to complete the set.   :salute

Yes...I have actually done some work on the field maps ... by simply modifying the existing maps...

I think I should re-do them as well so the entire map pack is set...

Good suggestion

Seeing as I finished up the strats sooner than anticipated I think I will work up the rest of the set now...

Delta...how does this look?

(If you look closely you can see the 109's and Ju-88's I added in the terrain editor...lol)

And I imagine that most guys want them blank for their squads so they can mark them up themselves?

I will make them both way so folks can decide on their own...

By the way the next pair will be the port..because it so hideous right now with its green patch grass...almost if not as bad as the HQ default clip map...

Little nugget here...

The following file has every 'old style' standard strat in clip map format rotated on the 8 major cardinal compass points...that is to say if your going to attack a strat (Fuel for instance)  from the SW...this pack has a clip map of the fuel facility rotated into a SW to NE orientation...as an example...

If your a leader of bombers attacking strats, and your so inclined to provide your people with accurate mapping and intelligence...and your flying in a terrain/arena that is still leveraging the old style of strats...you will find this more than useful...

Down the road the map pack I am working on now with the new style strats depicted in the 'new/old' vintage style will have these rotated attack maps...for now here is the old pack...which is very valuable seeing as we are still dealing in the special events with the old style strats..

One chooses these rotated maps and attack profiles to eliminate the cross wind component as is commonly found in Special Events...the Norden bomb sight is self compensating for head and tail wind components...by tracking either upwind or downwind...one can eliminate an unnecessary variable or factor...and ensure the teams success in accomplishing their mission...

Big salute to the ground pounder's...no offense to the fighter jocks...
