I really want to fly into tank town and torpedo a hanger.

Missed out tonight Beefcake, we had a few B-25's escorting a group of B-26's to bomb the enemies runway.  :)

Did any B-25C equipped squadrons even drop torpedoes?  Don't recall reading of any instances of the B-25 other than the B-25J using glide torpedoes in two instances during combat evaluations during the last week of the war.  Only other instance of level bombers being used as torpedo bombers that I know of were the two missions ran on the same day at Midway and the Aleutians, the Midway mission was considered unsuccessful while the Aleutians mission was moderately successful.  Afterwards, level bombers weren't used by the USAAF as torpedo bombers until those two glide torpedo tests.

I'd rather have the option for skip bombs or parafrags, or any other ordnance package that was actually used in combat by the B-25.  Unfortunately, I don't think we'll get skip bombs anytime soon because that would be a lot of work coding wise I would imagine.

I guess B-25 using torpedo was as common as the B-26, P-38 or 190 used them.  Note: 190 i believe was experimental.

I dont think the need ever arose for it. Japanese shipping could be hit by para drag bombs at low level and strafing, and later rockets by B-25s which was probably considered more safer and effective then trying to use torpedos. Vs IJN capital ships on the high seas the navy was seen as the service to use; ie SBDs and TBMs. Torpedos are a tricky weapon and required a slower approach at very low alt with the weapon hung externally and also its a weapon that required specialist training to use properly. A crew needed some practice with it to really get good at it. Typical medium bomber crews were not trained as torpedo crews. At the end of the day I think the USAAF would have said "why bother" with it that point of the war and left torping to the USN who had the planes, crews and doctrine to use it.

Some bomber crews (depending on the bomber) did receive training in torpedo bombing, at least until Midway. After the USAAF determined that using level bombers for torpedo bombers wasn't a good idea, state side training for USAAF bomber pilots on torpedo bombing was phased out (believe B-26 and B-25 crews were given this state side training).  The Marines and Navy continued to train their bomber crews in torpedo bombing but never used in combat.

P-38 testing of a torpedo was only experimental and never went beyond that stage.  B-26s were only used twice on the same day (at Midway and the Aleutians) to drop torpedoes in combat and were not used as torpedo bombers after these two sorties.  The only B-25 that I can find any record of dropping torpedoes were the handful of B-25Js sent to the PTO during the last 2 weeks of the war and carried out two missions dropping glide torpedoes during combat evaluations.

I wonder how well of performance the P38 would have with torpedoes?

I'd imagine terrible performance in the form of speed reduction and decreased maneuverability.

I thought the P-38 was a torpedo already, at least an aerial compressing type torpedo  :headscratch:

Don't believe the 25 ever used torps operationally.

Only the two missions flown during the last couple of weeks of the war using B-25Js.

Not so. Your forgetting the RAF 14 Squadron again.

You forgot to read the squadron's history.

On 21st February 1943 nine Marauders led by Maj Eric Lewis SAAF attacked shipping in the harbour at Melos, but despite the success of this action, this operation was the last time that the Squadron used torpedoes

Corky is correct, B-25s never used torpedoes operationally.  The only time B-25s dropped torpedoes was in 1945, literally the last two weeks of the war when a handful of B-25Js modified to carry the glide torpedo flew two missions to evaluate the glide torpedo in combat, which proved inconclusive.

S.A.P.P does that all the time using Mensa's technique he developed for dropping torpedoes on building and ground vehicles.  A well dropped torpedo on the old towns used to take out 5-6 buildings if you hit the angles just right on the drop.

I might not use the torps but I sure as heck would use the B-25J.

Just throwing that out there...... :pray
