Designer Notes

*CVL Shoho provided air protection for the IJN Port Morseby invasion TF. No other naval units on either side was able to conduct amphibious operations. To recreate this C52 will be the only TF with LVTs.

** The 35th and 36th Fighter squadrons Operated a mix of P-39Ds and P-400s Pilots wishing to simulate the P-400 should arm with the 37mm gun package. Pilots wishing to simulate the P-39D should arm with the 20mm gun package.

*** The 35th and 36th Fighter squadrons were sent to Port Moresby to relieve RAAF 75 Sqn which only had three operational Kittyhawks during this battle. To simulate the rarity of P-40E operations for this week in time they available only a P13 and it will take some effort to get them airborne from there.

**** The TBM being limited to torpedo's only is to better reflect the limitations of the TBD Devastator.

Looks good. :)

The P-39/400 descriptions are flipped,  the P-39D had the 37mm gun.  The P-400 was the export model for the RAF who requested the 20mm.

Yeah Soulyss I screwed that up when I first did the setup. It was corrected, but the old writeup was used again.

Either way, looking forward to give this setup a try.  I hope the terrain cooperates.   I can't wait to try and shoot down a zero with my P-39D, by all accounts she's  just a horrible plane but I love her so. :D

WHAT ABOUT THE terrain wasn't cooperating?

and how does the 39D fly compared to the "Q"?

It looks good to me. The only problem is my mistake on the P-39s. I thought we had it fixed but it keeps popping up and I can seem to find the corrected post. Anyway I appreciate you giving it a second try.

Just popped online to see if I had the terrain downloaded and noticed that at the airfields around Port Moresby the P-39Q was enabled (A3, A14).  The P-40 wasn't enabled at those fields but was enabled at the Port itself (P13) but the port doesn't have a runway. :)

Jaeger,

The only thing I could add is if there's an update before next Thursday and the G4M is added... get her in the setup. Oh and tend to Soulyss' P-39Q problem.

according to the setup, only 13 had p40e's. and you can take off from the base, albeit with a little difficulty. i tested it last night. ill disable the Q when i get home tonight.

Flew the setup tonight was fun but have one observation.   It's more like Port Moresby, than Coral Sea.  The P40 and P39 vs the Zeke is fun but placement of the US CVs makes it time consuming to get the  Wildcats into the fight.  Would it be possible to move the CVs a half sector further north?  Or place the US CVs and the IJN CVs a couple sectors apart opposing each other.  Don't need them right up close or on top of each other.  But the current distance really limits the use of the F4f( or the CV based IJ planes) and imo the F4f vs A6m2 is a great fight. <S>

Bug your observations were one of the challenges of the setup. If the aircraft at Port Morsby were not present it would be too much like the Midway setup. If the CVs are too far away it boils down to a battle of Port Morsby  Army aircraft onkly against the Zekes. It's one of the things you can't see until the setup actually flys. I was planning another setup called Seven Mile Strip based upon the battles of Port Morsby USAAF P-39s an Lae IJN A6M2s of the Tainan Air Group. I guess you could almost use this scenario just pull both Navys and P-40s.

I think all planes in there should stay.  But if there was a way to coordinate the land-based with the CV based it would be nice.  May not be possible.  Flew the p39 for the first time tonight and it was fun, so I would totally give up on the land based.  Just didn't have the time to bring a wildcat up to the fight.

I'll stop babbling now.
