OK, I just ordered a Radeon 8500 OEM to take a break from NVIDIA (been using that brand since TNT 1).
Anyone here using Radeons on AH and other games? Can you give me honest opinions on image quality, and framerate reports?
What FPS you get in SMOKE at HIGH RESOLUTION.
I like image quality, but for me one one of the most important aspects for inmersion is that my framerate never gets below 30FPS.
My system should be more than adecuate to push the Radeon and make it shine.
AMD Athlon 1.5Ghz (1.4Ghz OClocked)
Abit KG7 (150FSB/10Multiplier)
512mb Crucial PC-2100 DDR CAS-2
IBM Deskstar 60GXP 7200 RPM 40gigs
Hercules Game Theater XP sound system
Monitor: Hewlett Packard Ergo 1600 "21 (1600x1200x32bit @ 72hz)

Aren't you a bit late on that Animal since you already purchased the product?
It's good to ask in advance and then make the decision :)
I read that the latest Radeon drivers really improve the performance and reliability of the card so I'd expect it to work fine.
They say this version of drivers is like the one that was supposed to come out in day ONE. All others should be considered alpha or beta.

Yes, you either dont know me or forget that I am an impulsive tardling who lives the moment, to later regrets his cutting-edge decisions.
So if I am lucky, someone will tell me its a crappy card and I will still have time to call the store I ordered from and cancel it.

Ask Fatty which card he has, but I flew on his machine a little at the con and the picture quality was excellent. It was some version of the Radeon.

I called them and cancelled the order, and ordered a Logitec Z-560 Speaker System, wich is getting rave reviews saying its the "klipsch killer"
And if you havent heard the klipsch, they are AWESOME.
My Geforce2 will have to do for now, I'll get a Radeon later on.

I have the Radeon 8500 OEM on my system. I run it at 1600x1200x32, fps drops to 20ish in heavy smoke w/lots of planes around..up to 55ish when there's nothing to see.
Be advised, the OEM card is clocked (core/memory) at 250mgz as opposed to the retail 275mgz. You can get a program called "Power Strip" that will let you overclock the card to appropriate specs (Win98/ME don't know about XP). I haven't overclocked mine since I put my new system together...will probably get around to it one day lol.
Picture quality is far better than any other card I've ever had...(Some old SiS 3D card, VodooII, Banshee, VoodooIII 3000, Geforce 256). Speed however is not quite what you'd expect but the fps doesn't vary during the game nearly as much as the Geforce..just seems more stable.
Advice? If you want a very pretty picture...go with the Radeon. IF you want speed, stick with what you have (I'll assume you have a GeForceII Ultra, can't comment otherwise). Personally, I probably would have waited on this new Nforce thing had I known about the OEM underclocking issue ATI didn't bother to tell anyone about until after they put it on the market.
I'm fairly happy with the card, but not the company.
Good luck
