Aces High Bulletin Board

I finally upgraded to a new 1000 dpi Mouse, and I love the thing.
Here's the question before I get into the details: Anyone know how to slow my mouse movement down?
I tried two different brands before choosing the one I like, but both act the same way in Aces High. The cursor zips across the screen and is hard to control. Clearly the change in resolution is causing it, but I don't know how to adjust it and I would rather not install the company provided software drivers if I can avoid it.
I can see MoveObjectRelative in the mouse.cfg file, but I don't know if that's what I want to change, and if so, what setting should I try?
Search didn't show any relevant results, and with new mice coming out at over 4000 dpi, this looks like a problem for a lot of people down the road.
Thanks

My guess sir would be somewhere in your control panel.

I'm pretty sure that Aces High just uses what's reported to it by windows, so adjusting it in your windows control panel should help... also try turning off all mouse acceleration options there.

Right, that was the first thing I tried.
The thing is that there's a difference between the way it acts on the desktop and the way it acts in-game. I guess I should have made that more clear.

Easy
I've never found a satisfactory explanation for the reason my mouse went hyperactive during the last couple of updates / patches but I have the same phenomenon. During normal operations my track ball works just fine but in AH it's so sensitive I could barely use it. I finally broke down and got a wireless standard mouse that isn't as bad. I figure it will work itself out eventually.

Go to the control panel>mouse>pointer options, There you can change the speed.
And from mouse properties go to hardware>properties>advanced settings> there you can change the sample rate and buffer length.

I tried both Col... the only thing I accomplished was when in regular Window my mouse crawled across the screen.

For those that don't know, a 1000 dpi gives great control for graphics work. The more dpi the better.
But so far as I know, AH does adjust for the increased dpi and I'm trying to find out if anyone has a work-around.

You may have to install the software that came with it.... My trackball would act funny in the game so I installed the software and no issues. Not guaranteeing that will work for you though. Is there a big difference between your desktop resolution setting and your game resolution settings?? :salute

Now that I think of it, seems like this has been mentioned before.. have you checked over at the 'bugs' forums?
-
Desktop resolution = in-game resolution.
All the bug reports predate the availability of 1000 dpi mice.
Yes, the mouse software may be the way to go, but as removing driver software is always a risky proposition, I'd still rather not install any software until I'm willing to reformat my computer. This mouse works great right out of the box, unlike the MS mouse I returned, so I'd still like to know if there's a work-around available.
If you've installed the mouse/trackball software, then my question needs to follow how you managed to declare one type of behavior for your desktop and normal applications like browsers etc vs the behavior within AH?

Depending on the brand they may have included software to control it. I know Logitech has Set-Point and I can set in-game and Windows pointer speeds separately. I have Pointer speed/acceleration turned off for games in Set-point since it makes the mouse the most sensitive thing ever.
D'oh, just noticed I posted right after you mentioned after not liking software (was typing when you posted), aside from extra software I have no idea. :)

Thanks 1701
Yeah, I went with Logitech even though I have three in a drawer with dead left click buttons. The darn things are a more elegant solution then the others I've tried.

I have a Track Man Wheel USB in Win 7 64bit.
Untill I installed the latest Win 7 64bit compatable SetPoint software I had your same problems in the game. The MS native software was great at the desktop and most other applications. Aces High though was not happy with it.

The problem that some players are having (including me) with the hyper-sensative mouse started with the update we had in early summer when we switched over to the Miles system. Prior to that my mouse worked perfectly but afterwards no matter how low I've set the sensativity in CM Storm Sentinel utility program or lower my DPI settings to as low as I can the cursor is still very hyper-sensative.
ack-ack

They may break easier under use than some but darn they are nice to use (never had one break under use personally). :)
If you do go the SetPoint way, or consider it, this is what it'll look like so you can figure out if it's got options you'll want/need:

Sorry bout poor resolution but the first picture has:
Game Detection
*box
Apply Game Settings when a Game is detected
*box
Game Mode Settings
*Keep Mouse Acceleration
*Keep Mouse speed
*Keep Right/left hand button assignments
*Keep Other button Assignments
The selected options are default.

That does look promising 1701.
I think it would be better if the game had an option to resolve the issue, but I guess I'm willing to give the SetPoint software a chance if nothing shows up soon. I'll start backing up my system though, just in case I don't like it.
