Title: Converting from Fat32 to NTFS
Post by: WizOfClay on November 03, 2001, 09:37:00 AM
Hey all,

I am currently using Win2K Pro but using Fat32... I want to start using NTFS but I don't want to re-format my HD and re-install just yet yes I know re-installing as NTFS is better but no time to do it in the near future...  If I use the  Convert C:/Fs:ntfs command, will it delete any of my files and will AH still run?

Thanks in advance,

convert will simply convert the file system.  It will not harm any of your files, and yes AH will still run.

Of course it's always a good idea to back up your machine first if you can, but I've never had convert cause me any problems.

Remember, once you change to NTFS, you will not be able to go back to FAT32 unless you reformat. Personally, I haven't seen any downside to NTFS so far, so it may be moot.

Using Convert will not lose any files. The only downsides to NTFS are that you can no longer read the disk from Win 9x (not really an issue) or from a boot floppy.
