...Here stands baseball's perfect knight." (http://stlouis.cardinals.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20101117&content_id=16129114&vkey=news_stl&c_id=stl)
The St. Louis Cardinals have announced that Stan "The Man" Musial, the heart of the Cardinals of the 1940s and 1950s, is to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
As well as one of the greatest players in the history of the game, Musial served his country in war, and today remains one of St. Louis's most important civic icons, particularly through various businesses, most notably his series of restaurants in the downtown area both before and during his playing career. For nearly 70 years Musial has been not only an enduring symbol of Cardinals baseball, but of the City of St. Louis itself and continues to make public appearances even at age 90.
The announcement follows an extensive and nationwide "Stand for Stan" campaign launched by Cardinals fans earlier this year and aimed to raise awareness of Musial's life and contributions both to the game of baseball and the City of St. Louis. The campaign even achieved global reach through the use of special "Flat Stan the Man" cutouts, some of which turned up in photos taken as far away as Athens, Greece; Pisa, Italy; and American military bases in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Musial joins 7 other baseball players who have received the honor, including legends Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams, and Hank Aaron.

Congratulations, Stan. You truly are the Greatest Cardinal of them All.

Great Player, Great Man. Very rarely do you see both in one person, but when you do, you know they have earned every honor bestowed upon them.

Yep from a time when a baseball player wasn't just a d*%^head who was over payed and under played. Wish I had grown up watching and listening to baseball players like him play instead of the crap that we started getting in the 80's until now.
