Title: how much heat is *hot* on my CPU?

My CPU temp when not being really worked is anywhere between 39 and 43 degrees celsius. immediately after running AH for several hours <grin> my CPU temp is 53 degrees celsius. Is this OK? too hot?

BTW, I went to the MBM Download website. The guy says DL the utility on the link on the left side of the page, but the link is missing. Can anyone tell where I can get a copy of MB monitor?

Yo Ammo,
General rule of thumb for TB's i use is 55c is a max i will allow it to get to
For heavy gaming needs 53c aint bad really i suppose
Put it like this it aint gonna die on ya at that temp   :)

TB's rated to 90c max but that's a peak max and not normal all time running temp
Ran an old TB at 80c none stop for 48hrs last year, Still going strong   :D

EDITED: I have watercooling and after trying many HSF's i found you can't beat it especially when overclocking, And aint as expensive as one may think  :)

That's actually VERY cool for a modern CPU.  If it's an Athlon, I'd suspect that temp is not under load.  70c is not uncommon for Athlons in my experience.

If yours is running that cool under load, you should try overclocking it.  :)

Pay attention to your case temp too.
My case never gets to 30 degrees, and the cpu never goes over 47 degrees

Got a 1.4 TBird.

Approaches 65 degrees here during hard use, but my BIOS thermostat gives different readings from my Windows one, usually 5 degrees less and I'm inclined to think it's more accurate.

No ill effects.

That's about the same as I get from my 1.3 Tbird.  I wouldn't be concerned if 53 C is the max you see.

My 1.4ghz T-bird runs at 59C under load with a case temp of 29-30C

Installed MBM 5 and I am watching the temps close. Looks like the CPU will be between a Lo of 46*C adn a Hi of 55*C and my case temp will vary between a low of 41*C/ Hi of 47*C. I have 2 case fans, one pulling and one pushing but I think I would do better to swap them out. Ie the front one is psuhing and I want it to pull instead. This because the case itself doesnt have good ventilation in the front.

That little volcano 5 and heat sink seems to do well.

I use 2 case fan blowing in and two blowing our plus a taisol CGK760092 HS with 30CFM fan.  My temps are about 36C under a small load.  Haven't tried AH yet.

If you have been running AH for a few hours, 53-56C shluld be no problem.

Yes, its best to have the lowest front fan sucking, and the high rear fan blowing out. Also, do whatever you can to keep the ide and floppy connectors out of the airflow. You can get round connectors or make your own. I just folded mine into 4's and taped them, then put the split electrical wiring flex tubes around them.

I have two fans sucking, two blowing, with a stock fan/heatsink on a 1400mhz palomino. I get 39 - 40*C at idle. (Palominos do run a little cooler)

Oh my goodness gunthr... I turned the fans around and stowed the ribbon cables and my case temp dropped 12*C!! the CPU is also running cooler at a modest 42*C and the case temp is 29*C.

Most people don't realize the very major difference in cooling that can be realized by simply routing your IDE and floppy ribbon cables to be out of the flow path for your case fans.  What I do is just wrap up the extra cable and stuff it into an empty drive bay.

AMD Athlon 900Mhz here.

Overclocked (using pencil method) the CPU to 1080Mhz by setting the FSB to 108Mhz and the multiplier to 10x.

I have one case fan blowing air on my interface cards and a very big heatsink and fan keeping the CPU cool. Took off the side panel to the PC too.

It's staying below 46degrees celcius even when playing AH.

Ammo buddy... that's way too cool for a geek!  ;) You've got that thing so efficient it's time to crank up the heat load!  OC that sucker, you should get good results.  Free speed is good.  :D
