Keep their damn dogs in their yard. Today a yellow Lab from down the road came into my yard attacked my Chihuahua. I was able to run inside, grab my 12ga, and killed the lab, but not before it had killed my dog, that was doing nothing more then laying out in the sun. Now two dogs are dead because some idiots don't know how to chain up their dogs or at least keep then from getting off their property. :furious
-
Sorry to hear about your pup. That really sucks. :frown:
-
Im really sorry to hear that. I own 3 labs (2 Black, 1 Yellow) and I've honestly have never heard anything about them being violent. It's never fun to lose a pup.
-
No joke larry, i just started a thread to because I keep getting chased and attacked by dogs running wild, and i'm not even on the peoples property. A damm Rottweiler chased me while I was riding my bike in the street earlier this week!
-
Thanks guys. Whats really messed up is I called animal control twice this week on that same dog because it kept coming into my yard trying to get into my chicken coop and they didn't do anything about it. I own four dogs a lab/pit mix that I keep on a runner a beagle and two chihuahuas. My property isn't fenced in but Iv never had and trouble keeping my dogs from running the streets. There are three more of my neighbors dogs that I see every day running around and they have a fence. From now on screw animal control if a dog comes into my yard its getting shot, because god forbid this happens again and my little sister or myself is the next one to get attacked.
-
hmm, I just called the police station to ask about my options for next time a dog chases me, they told me to call animal control. It sux that you say they won't do anything about it though. I think of carrying a bat or some sort of weapon but it kinda awkward riding a bike with a bat in hand, but I really don't want to get into any trouble with the law either... :(

Mace, bb gun, or if you're old enough a hand gun. If a dog is chasing or charging you and you are in fear of your own safety then do what you have to do.
-
Wife is always puttering about on a moped taking pictures, and gets chased a LOT--she has a night-stick/flashlight/stun-gun contraption, seems to do the trick. She's afraid it will kill a small dog, but that particular scenario hasn't arrived yet
-
This will do the trick. guaranteed to stop any size dog with the first hit.

If you know the owners you can file a suit. You can only get the value of the dog. They don't care if you consider it a family member or not.
Sorry to hear about your dog.
-
I have told my neighbors in the past I won't punish your dog just the owner. Dogs are a responsibility just like everything else. If you cannot look out for the dogs vested intrests then you should not have one. Larry sorry for your dog.

:rofl Larry. You are getting better at this :lol

I have a Very big German Shepard, vet even says he is big, I have sign up saying do not enter dog!
I have a chain wrapped around six foot high gate, have a guess what door to door salesman did, i came out to dog barking over a salesman who had knocked himself out trying to escape.
Dogs are daft people are stupid :old:

Sorry to hear about your dog.
She was the runt of a litter and we decided to keep her, so we didn't pay anything for her, but anyways suing them wont bring my dog back.

If you would have had some pepper spray there would have been no dead dog's ..

Pepper spray wouldn't have did anything because I never got close enough to use it. Once it saw me coming it would always run away. And yesterday I heard my dog yelping so I ran outside to see her in the other dogs mouth. By that time it was far beyond pepper spray that's why I went straight for the shotgun.
The only things that would have prevented this situation was if animal control did their jobs or if the owners did theirs.

Sorry for ur loss man. condolences. i have 3 dogs, 1 male rott 12yrs old n 2 mutts. we have a loose dog problem in my village too. Buy a bb gun i did. even tho i love dogs i shoot them if they in my yard, always tearing up my trash.

I agree. I also hate suits.
Even if you did not buy your dog there is a replacement value. Feel bad about talking value when you lost your dog. That is the way the law looks at it.
The only true thing that will help you is to get another one.

sorry to hear larry i have a chihuahua myself its heart breaking to see the little things get hurt <<S>> bro

I'm sorry to hear you lost your friend, Larry. I don't blame you at all for shooting to kill.
I take it you don't have coyotes in your neck of the woods? We have a ton over here, and can't leave our small dog out alone.
-
Sorry to hear Larry, sounds like you did the right thing.

We do Vudak but they only come out at night and I bring the little dogs in right when it gets dark. This all happened around 3PM.

Out of curiosity has the owners of the Lab had anything to say?

I went over to their house with the officer that showed up and told them what happened. They were bummed that both our dogs were dead and apologized.

sounds like an all around crappy day :(
Sorry you lost your dog Larry. They really do become a member of the family.
You did the right thing though I think.

May your Chihuahua rest it peace :salute, and the offending lab, in pieces . That reminds me, my old squad was called the Killer Chihuahuas, no joke.

surprisingly aggressive behavior for a lab. They usually don't become aggressive unless their defending their loved ones, one of the traits that make them excellent as a family dog.
It is truly sad Larry, I am sorry for your loss. I know to a lot of people, pets are just that pets but to those of us that have been lucky, these "pets" become far more than just pets to us. It's been already 6 years since I lost my mixed breed mutt, Muttley and I still feel the pain from the loss every time I think about her or look at her dog tag on my key chain.
ack-ack
-
They don't call them mans best friend for nothing...Its sad you had to kill the lab even though I would have to if it killed my dog.
People are 100% responsible for their pets whether they are in their yard or someone elses.
A person can come one YOUR property, get bitten and still sue you...it's messed up but true.
I guess this is just part of owning a pet...I would go after the labs owners because they can't bring your dog back and they probably made the lab aggressive.

That's what I was thinking. Only reason can think of is because it was neglected or abused.

I think it was because it was running with three other dogs from down the road for weeks now. Maybe it got used to being in a pack and it brought out the aggressive instincts that dogs get when they run in packs.
-
The lab's owner is a doosh for sure, but anyone think to test it for rabies? Like was said, that kind of behavior is out of character for a lab. If the owner didn't care enough to train it and keep it under control, who's to say they ever vaccinated it...
-
Sorry for your loss Larry, i have 2 Weiner dogs Papa and Daughter i wouldnt know what to do if the same happened :pray
