Name me the fastest sea plane ever built.
The Hughes H-4 Hercules!

Be-10?

I have yet to read compelling evidence that states the Sea Dart was anything more than a crazy dream. And although a floatplane, I'm not sure I could bring myself to call it a seaplane.

Easy! Me-B29

Saunders Roe A1. It's in the Southampton Hall of Aviation, used to go and gaze at it's enormous magnificence once a week when I lived in Southampton. Was about a 20 minute walk from where I lived.

- Beriev Be-10 holds the official record
- Convair F2Y Sea Dart is actually the fastest seaplane (the only supersonic seaplane) but never flew an official FAI-record
- Macchi MC.72 is the fastest float plane/fastest piston engined seaplane

Sea Dart is on youtube :D

They built three. Apparently one hit a log when landing and sunk. The other lost in a flying display.
I believe the one in Southampton is the only one left. Did you know it has an engine missing. It was borrowed for Donald Cambells Bluebird..!

LLogann you are correct although only 3 were ever built it is still classified as the only supersonic float/seaplane ever to be made. I cant see it as a float plane as it never had floats it had 3 retractable skids. I had a chance to see this plane up close and personal in 1975. I was driving along US 5 and happened to see a tail sticking out from under a canvas tarp behind the old Convair plant in San Diego. I knew exactly what I had seen so I went to the front gate and asked if I could take a look at the plane I had seen from the highway and was escorted back to the plane. Man was I surprised at what I saw. The plane was fully intact but the salt water had taken a heavy toll on the outer skin by corrosion. The turbine fans were pitted badly and the leading edge of the wings were dented most likely from waves as the plane gained speed. I don't know which plane this was of the 3 that were built but I do know it was the only one left.
