Hmmmm... I wonder how many career points it takes to bring in a C-5A Galaxy for the field capture (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hey Verm I had the pleasure of seeing a C-5 while I was stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB and I can tell you it's the biggest thing I've EVER seen.
I worked on the flight line so when the C-5 was taxing past me I decided to get to closer and stood just off the taxi way. I waved at the pilot when he went by and he gave me a big smile( I thought he was just being friendly) but when the jet just got past me the pilot gunned the engine and I was knocked of my feet and rolled about 20ft.
I looked up and the pilot was hanging out his window laughing his butt off.

Somehow I think the Airbus A3XX would be the ultimate in base-capturing aircraft. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
Well the C47 could carry 30 or so(guess). So the 54 in the game would get 17?
-
What did you do in the Air Force Mighty1? (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I was in the WV ANG from Nov 85 thru early 91, and worked as a air cargo specialist, parachute rigger (cargo mainly), and air drop inspector.
I have spent alot of time around and on board C-130's, C-141's, and C-5's. Would like to get a good look at a C-17, but they came out after I had left.
C-5's in the air look unreal. They literally look too big to fly and look like a UFO on landing and takeoff.
Standing on the open ramp on a C-5 is scary, its about a 30 foot drop down to the tarmac.
Damn big airplane. Very Very impressive to get to see the inside of one.

I flew in a several C5a's and C141's while in the Army. The passenge rateing for a C5a is only 63 or so passengers. and we sit in a cramped space up on the dorsal faceing the rear of the aircraft. Also, paratrooping from one is not very feasable due to the wake turbulence. But it would be the ultimate panzer transporter (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Nah, Give me the good ol' C130 for base capture. Ever fly NOE in one of those, not and empty vomit bag on board, but a kick butt ride (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Wmutt, just before I got out, back in 90, I applied for a Loadmaster position (guys I worked with regularly in my cargo specialist job).
Loadmaster for all of you that dont' know, is the aircrewman that handles all the grunts and cargo in back. On a paradrop run he is the guy that stands by the light and yells "GO GO GO GO GO" along with the Army Jumpmaster.
Now being a Gaurd unit, you applied for the position, got interviewed and went thru a process more similar to the civilian world.
And part of that process was they took you up flying with them and do a couple of the "simulated combat runs" to see if you could handle the airsickness and the "Mr. Toad's Wild Rides'" as some of the guys in the unit called them.
Mine was some of the most fun I had ever had. Flying NOE in the mountains, ravines, and valleys of WV are exciting to say the least. I still remember standing behind the pilot and flying down a narrow valley that looked like the trench scene in the original Star Wars, look left.. ridge above you, look right .. ridge above you, and straight ahead the valley ends and the mountain is at least 500ft above you with the stall warnings screaming all around you. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif) Gawd it was fun. Then standing in a harness on the end of the lowered ramp at 700ft AGL, throwing parachutes out tha back as you screamed over the DZ was incredible.
I got the position (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) but later couldn't pass the flight physical and found out I was diabetic (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif) And that was the end of my military career.

Ah, I'd been meaning to ask just how many a C47 could really carry! I had a look in one the other week and that particular one had about 25 seats in the back.
Cheers
