Title: New Machine FINALLY up and Runing
Post by: Swager on November 07, 2001, 10:49:00 AM
Finally got my new machine up and running.

My first flight in AH with my new machine and I was shot down by Fester.  Bastiage!    :)

NOTE: New computers do not improve flying skill!    :)

Anyways I got good FPS.  I max out at 60.  Believe it is monitor limited.

I did fly at 1600x1200 alittle while but then moved it back down to 1280x1024.

Still have a slight problem with nose bounce plus my JS buttons don't always work all the time.  Last night in my melee with fester my guns just started firing on their own!  I'm thinking, "WTF?". and tried to fix it but the damage was done, Fester got position.

But the computer is nice and I am sure to have many happy moments with it.

Those Antec 830s are nice cases. I like the 4 fan bays and the extra bay to cool your HD.

Raub, I believe I have the same case.

Is this the one you are referring to:

That's the one I have, bought it from Best Buy. Very good case, great air circulation and a lot of room inside of it so it isn't crowded like most cases.

It's this one:

Very nice, the whole front is a big grille. It has 2 mounts for fans in the front and 2 in the back. Also has a mount in front of the HD bay. You can mount an intake fan to blow over your HD. It comes with a 300w Antec PS and has a ton of room. Was only $99 a CompUSA.

The one I have only has room for two case fans, one in the front and bottom to blow into the bottom of the case and one in the back right behind where the processor rests that can suck air out.

It's not as cool looking as the one you guys have, but it did come with an Antec 300watt power supply.

Mine was a little cheaper (by about $30), guess it's a lower end case.

I made mine just as efficient as a case with 6 fans... I removed the side panel.   ;)

In control panel, gaming controllers, check to see if Poll with interupts is checked.

Hiya's,
Q for Swager....
With ya Liteons can you burn-on-the-fly at full speed with the dvd Liteon ?
Why i ask is i tried with a *cough cough* Creative CD (pos really !) and max on-fly i got was 8x  :(
Having read about the Liteon dvd i was gonna get one to go with my 12/10/40 Liteon (should be in my mothers pc but what the hell it would only baffle her if she were to try to burn stuff  :D )

If you can gimme the dvd model # and what on-fly speeds you can do it would be much appreciated, Here in ole blightey i have a choice of 2 so any info to aid my choice would be great  :)

Nice sys btw

Have Fun

Hi oboe, yup I got the components and pieced it together. As far as FPS, they are much better.
I used to get 20's to 30's in good conditions and now I am getting 60's. In some AC in the front view I get 75 fps! in the middle of smoke I get 15 fps. But in fairness, although I am using the same vid card as before, I did change drivers.  I think it had a role in the greatly improved FR's.

I am really pleased though. My new machine is such an improvement over my old one :)

nice setup Ammo. I have a Gforce 3  vid card get a steady 30 and 17 in smoke i do fly at 1600x1200 setting. My CPU is 600MHz was told need at least 1000MHz to get most from card. Upgrading my system the slow way as and when i can aford it lol. Fast CPU is the next buy.

wow, if that is your CPU temp, that IS good. That is not your internal case temp, right?

Swager if you cap out at 60 fps and don't have the framerate cap on, check your monitor refresh rate IN game...

If you use Windows2000 you NEED a prog called nvreffix to set your in-game refresh rate higher. This is due to a bug in nvidia drivers, the desktop refresh rate is not transmitted to 3d like it should!

You can choose from 60hz to whatever your monitor supports. Usually it's possible to play 1024x768 with at least 85hz. I would not suggest playing with anything less than 75hz refresh because that really kills the eyes.

Hey Ammo!  It is my CPU Temp!   :)

Mr. Rip.  Thanks for advice.  Can you give me some directions.  Never did that before.  I have Win98SE.  Basically I have to cchange my Monitor Refresh rate right?  Couldn't find it.  Any help would be appriciated!   :)

Also I cannot find my Vsync control for off and on.  I looked under:

DISPLAY>SETTINGS>ADVNACED>THE GRAPHICS ADAPTER TAB>ADDITIONAL PROPERITIES>D3D SETTINGS TAB.

But nothing

Thanks

I think vsync is on by default in D3D with recent Nvidia drivers. You can d/l a shareware prog called powerstrip from http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm)  - it lets you overclock your displaycard, tweak it etc.
