Last January I had to admit that my Computer no longer can compete with the average setup in AH. So I left.
Now I have to buy components for a new system because some parts of my old one start to fail.
Would the listed components be good enough for playing AH?
I don't need all the settings maxed out, I don't need Antialiasing. I'm happy with a compromise (priority of performance over quality).
Special question: Is it true, that a 256bit bus on the Graphic Card is important for a screen resolutions over 1500x1000 (or so)?
System will be Windows 7
Screen resolution 1680x1050
Here the hardware:
CPU
Intel Core i3 550
MB:
Gigabyte GA-P55-USB3
RAM:
Kingston ValueRAM, 2x2GB Kit, DDR3-1333, CL9
GC:
Sapphire HD 4850 512MB GDDR3, 256 bit
OR
Sapphire HD 6850 1GB GDDR5, 256 biI

Go for the sapphire 6850 for Max setup

I can't say where the breakover for 256 vs a 128 bit memory bus is in terms of "requirement". I would think that that's going to be dependent on the game architecture, although bigger would be better at any time (that I know of).
And yes, that system should do quite well for AH, playing with full visual range and AH max detail on even with the 4850, although I would suspect that shadowing might still be something of a problem if try to run it at max. You might need also find that during the busiest times the 4850 might slow a bit with all of the card settings at highest quality too, so if you can swing it, I'd definitely go with the 6850.

Thanks for the input so far.
As I said I don't need maximal settings in every department. Shadows for example are not important for me. And I don't hesitate to give up some visual quality for framerates. Full visual range on the other hand would be quite desirable.
And I dream of furballs with fps not under 40 hehe.

The 4850 can run detailed stuff I dint know about showing.
