Title: Panzer V "Panther" tank
Post by: nasty on November 30, 2010, 07:28:22 PM
Hey guys I have herd a rumor about Aces High having the Panther added. Its not that I don't like the fact that it might be added I  just don't know if its true. Personally I thing it would be nice to have a better German tank besides the Tiger but I don't want it to be perked to high lol.

Please if you know the truth reply.

Thanks

The Panther would have only one weakness in AH. Side armour yes?

Hull side and rear armor is very weak. As is the turret side armor.

Even a sherman 75 can poke through both with ease from a long way off.

It's not going to be as good as people think it will be, though the gun should be killer.

supposed to put the frontal armor of any tank to the enemy as much as possible for a reason ;)

do japanese tanks do that too?
technically yes they should due to the fact that iirc all japanese tanks had stronger frontal armor also.

Doesnt the panthar have tht pointed front on the turret? So any oncoming bullets from the front will richochet off?

pointed front? do you mean sloped armor? no it doesnt but the gun mantle would provide extra armor protection

If the Panther has as horrifically lulzy armour as those most-recently-added Shermans do, then I await it's arrival to the game with baited breath; it should make for some nice 75mm lunch (some day, at least).

Categorizing the Panther's side armor as very weak is an exaggeration. It is still better then the M4 and on par with the T-34. The Panther was designed for the medium tank role, not the heavy breakthrough role the Tiger was designed for. Simplified the Panther can be described as a T-34 with the Firefly's gun and Tiger's frontal protection.

If I ever take one out, there's no doubt I will roll it over against a rubber tree and be machine-gunned to death by a jeep.

That's it!  I'm gonna become a tank killer once I get my Beaufighter!  Gonna hunt Panthers with it!

Awesome!!!

I hope they do the running gear too - it was a smooth ride and could fire on the move better than most other tanks.

Hey that's great!  Will give you something to do in your retirement in 20 or so years, when we get the Beaufighter.  I mean really, other critical planes which contributed far more are needed before the Beaufighter.  Such as the TBD, He 100, Gloster Gladiator, Mitsubishi F1M, PZL P.11 etc..

Fencer is right! The TBD contributed to more aircrew deaths per sortie than any other front line USN aircraft. The He 100 contributed to Nazi propaganda (as the fighter that never really was). The Gladiator, well it contributed to the understanding that it's usually bad to show up at a gunfight with just a knife. The Mitsu F1M was an observation aircraft.. Usually observed to be on fire. The PZL saw extensive combat, for about a week...

Yep, gotta have 'em all before the Beaufighter. LOLOL

Fencer, I think Dan is just out of luck..

I dunno, Widewing.  I think the Gladiator might be too good for that list.  Perhaps the Fairey Battle would fit in better....

I gunned it out with 3 Panthers and a T-34-85 last night.  I was in Firefly.  I did not get any solid hits to the frontal armor, just ricochets.  I managed to flank two of the
Panthers on the right and both went down with side turret hits at about 2200 yards.  One took two hits, one was a one shotter.  Don't fight them face on unless you are in a Tiger or Panther also! :aok
