Title: F4U-4 WEP
Post by: MachFly on December 01, 2010, 04:04:01 AM
When you engage WEP on F4U-4 your E6B shows that your engine will run longer than without WEP.

I believe we had this bug for quite a while.

not a bug - the water injection reduces consumption. same as the N jug iirc.

But all that the water does is cools down the engine so it can produce more power, since water does not combust how can the engine be more fuel efficient?

I believe the water cooling allows the engine to run leaner without overheating as well as at higher pressures. Leaning the mixture gives you the increased range.

That's not a bug, it corresponds with real life operation.

What is a bug and is incorrectly modeled on many aircraft is that those that had injection based WEP systems were of finite duration.  In AH, even in aircraft that had a finite amount of WEP in real life, you can "cool down" after using WEP and re-engage it.  In real life, when you used it up, you were done for that sortie. (i.e. until the aircraft was serviced).
