I know i know....We've had this wish before, but i'm going to TRY to go into more detail.
Mines were used during WW2 to prevent enemy tanks from rolling onto thier territory easily. A major battle, was the Invasion of Normandy (D-day) and the Battle of Kursk. They were scattered across the shores of normandy and blew up as they came intact with tanks. Some were blown on contact, some were blown up on recognition of metal. (magnetic mines). A way to implement these into the game, is simply scatter them on every SHORE base we have, we could just have them on the shores to add more protections to sneak attacks. The US, during normandy only, had a tank that would destroy these mines safely known as the Sherman Crab. So yes, I believe that these mines would enhance the reality of the game and would make the game more suspensful. I'm not saying that these mines have to be every foot, but just scattered maybe 3 or 4 every 100ft? RESPAWNING OF MINES: Once a mine has been detonated, they could 'respawn' every 15-30 minutes.
This is just an idea that popped into my head, opinions? <<<S>>> JRjolly

how about mines available in the vehicle loadout list like the supplies are..and about same number...so m3 would have 7-10 and jeep would have 2-3 and once laid only freindly forces can see them but can still be blown up if you run over them and once detonated they are gone..gee could we get sea mines for air drops by c-47 too??

There are such things as minelayers :aok i wouldnt mind being able to help defend a town with a few well placed mines on the approach vectors and roads into the town...

Hmmm i can't find anything about LAND minelayers? It's all about naval minelayers. What vehicles?
-
oh here we go and what of aircraft that can drop mines? not only would they be abused but someone might run them into a de acked base and plant them by the spaws for the VH FH BH anf the runways.

dont need land minelayers. sea minelayers though is what i was thinking...

Is it possible for HTC to plant them only on shores? Sort of like guns on a field, but only on shores. They 'fire automatically' When activated and respawn automattically.

Oh ok, well i wasn't thinking that we need sea mines, maybe just land for a start?

Yeaaaaaaaaa NO. The Lvt is the most tedious thing in the game to actually drive, and just about the easiest GV to slaughter. Don't want your bases taken then watch the map and defend when stuff blinks.

Good reason......NOT any seceific reason? I'm trying to implant a decent feature to the game that could do all countries good for defence.

Mines would be a good add on to the Ord layout of the B29 ( Operation Starvation ) the mining of the inlets, harbors, channels and straits around Japan.
More than 1,250,000 tons of shipping was sunk or damaged in the last five months of World War II when Twenty-first Bomber Command executed an aerial mining campaign against Japan known as Operation STARVATION. Despite this outstanding success, the decision to commit the still unproven B-29 to minelaying was a close one that rose to the highest levels of the Services. The decision to conduct Operation STARVATION was made not only because mining would lead to a Japanese surrender without the need for a costly invasion of the home islands, but also with an eye towards post-war roles and missions for the Air Force. Once the decision was taken, General Curtis LeMay and his Twenty-first Bomber Command threw themselves wholeheartedly into the mission. On January 23, 1945, LeMay issued a general directive to the 313th Bombardment Wing to prepare for minelaying operations and on March 27, the 313th flew the first of over 50 mining missions. Working together on the remote island of Tinian, Air Force and Navy personnel turned a mission that began as an inter-service rivalry into one of the best examples of inter-service cooperation of the Pacific War.
It would be something different to do with the B29. Just dont know how it would play into the game here.

Ya'll are taking as a naval aspect of mining, i was just strictly referring to land mines. I mean, im assuming sometime in the next 10 years we will have subs, then maybe we can talk about naval mines. But for now, just auto respawning land mines.

So basically the only way to sweep these mines is by running one over? I don't see us getting a Crab anytime soon.
-
There mines all over, you just may not no it yet but there also know as trees and bushes!!! They flip u over and leave u there to DIE :O

Trial and error! Just roll on shore and hope you dont hit any! i guees another way to detonate the mines safely is to put the 8 inch guns on them....... But prior to the sherman crab, thats what they did! in WW1? they just rolled over no mans land and hoped they didnt hit anything!

They don't ave palm trees on the beaches in this game

As I stated if you want your towns defended then up and defend them. Land mines are just about the stupidest thing I could ever think of adding to this game. If you can't defend against a vehicle that has an open top, goes 10mph through the water, 25mph over land and is the easiest thing in the game to kill other than jeeps than you deserve to lose your bases. Also land mines are indiscriminate, they don't know if what hits them is friend or foe so they would have to kill anything that comes in contact with them.

It's just another aspect to the game that was implemented in WW2 and had decent casualties. This is another defence mechanism that was used, It;s just a cool feature to add to the game.

As to this, then so be it.....I'm sure it happened during WW2 and i doubt any tanks rolled right on the beach. If you did it i nthe game, then you are at your own risk.

No.
Mines are probably the second worst thing that could be done to the ground war. In EVERY other game you have them, they serve as a mindless and retarded way of getting kills without putting any effort in.
Think 'claynoobs' in CoD and Battlefield. Then get 5 claynoobs together, stick them in an M3, give them the ability to travel at 50 mph, reload, and blow up vehicles. Add in a dweebish 13 year old who thinks getting kills at any expense is the only way to have fun. Result: complete and utter retardation, noobishness, killing of GV fights, FPS dropping to zero as 50 dweebs drop 500,000 mines around a base 'because it's so awesomely strategically important!!!ONE!!!1111ONE!!!11', aforementioned dweebs crying when the arena resets 5 minutes later, and overall chaos and a breakup of the universe's time-space continuum.
So in conclusion, no. Just no.
edit:nice word filter...replace 'noob' w/ a suitable word rhyming with 'door'...

Negative, you didn't read my post correctly.......I said they AUTO RESPAWN and detonate on contact, sort of like auto ack. No manned effort included.

Sorry for my lack of reading skills (and/or seeing the word 'mines' and automatically thinking of claynoobs) ;)
And still, I'm completely opposed to this. Few things are more annoying in games than to be randomly blown up for no good reason. Having auto-generated mines would be just as annoying as manually placed ones (if not more, since you wouldn't be able to come back and bomb the tard who'd placed them in the first place :P).

:lol It would add more suspense to base taking and would make or break your chance to capture the base, i think it would be a lot of fun to TRY to navigate through the mines.

I'm not driving for 20 minutes through water with some tin can so that i now also have to worry about mines being all over the area. It's bad enough that a pack of rabid squirrels could tear through its armor.
Should i make a list of the million things to be afraid of when in an Lvt?

Go for it :P Thats why there is such thing as a Sherman Crab to denotate the mines safely.

That's not coming anytime soon. Well... Maybe two weeks? :D
I'm going to post one reason every time you post to reply to me.
It's already a suicide to try to land troops with it. Imagine having mines now.
EDIT: If you don't understand the reason let me shorten it.
It drives 10mph (Or so it shows, more like 1mph) in water, every gun, including friendly ones sometimes, are shooting at me.
-
I like the idea and the one with the idea of them being used as "supps" - but I would say have the mines out there as normal. This would require the attacking for to do what the bombers at Normandy, D-Day -1 failed to do due to the weather. Drop eggs and blow them to pieces! Can get an "object destroyed" or something plus some minor points. However; you might get the padders trying to bomb every enemy shore in the map LOL
:aok

WW2 wasnt no push over for conqering land either! This game makes WW2 look super easy, i'm just recommending an aspect that was very effective to stopping the US in its track during WW2
