Title: Battle Over Germany - An AHEvents Team Scenario
Post by: Fencer51 on December 04, 2010, 03:55:07 PM
We are pleased to annouce the first Scenario of 2011.

Before we go into all the details we would like to bring to your attention a few things which are different about this event than previous scenarios.

1.  This scenario will be ran on Saturday Evenings, US Time.  Arena closes at 9:30pm Eastern for final briefing.  Launch will be at 10:00pm Eastern.  The scenario will be 3 hours long and have a 30 minute disengagement phase like normal.

2.  This scenario will be 7 total frames.  We will have a coordination frame using the "Frame 2" settings for each side to iron out any problems in their command/control and communication.  We will then take a week break for final planning and then run the next 6 frames back to back.

3.  This scenario is written around the ability for the player to immerse themselves in history.  As such alot of extras are being provided with more to follow as we proceed.  Also some requirements have been added to aid in that.

4.  The Battle Over Germany General Forum which both sides have access too will be a public forum again.  All participants, whether registered or not, in that forum are still required to follow forum rules.

5.  There will be no rule changes.  We are human, so there might be some typos and an error we have missed, but the rules you see are final baring any such being found.

We hope you enjoy this scenario.

This is the classic fight of the 8th Air Force versus the Luftwaffe.  Experience the air war over Germany in six historical missions ranging from February 1944 to April 1945.  Be a member of the unit of your choice.
Use the planes they did for each mission and see how the battle over Germany evolved.  Fight the dynmaic fight against the opposition as both you and they evolve in strategy and equipment.

Experience the most indepth and historical scenario to date.  Fly over a beautiful recreation of the actual terrain with cities, airbases and targets researched and accurately located.
Refer to recon photos of the targets and bomb the actual targets which were attacked 70+ years ago.  File after action reports like the pilots at the time did using historically correct forms.
Research into the dozens of historical links provided and learn about the people who flew the planes and those on the ground on both sides.  Pick your unit and your plane with 1796 different
aircraft identification tags to choose from.  Find and name your B-17 or B-24 after an historical plane and learn about the men who flew her.  Choose which Staffel you want to be a member of in your Gruppen.

Join up and fight the last 14 months of the war in the skies over Germany.

Aircraft in this scenario include for the Axis the Bf-109G2, Bf-109G6, Bf-109G14, Bf-109K4, Me-262, Me-163, Me-110G, Fw-190A8, Fw-190D9, Ta-152H.  For the Allies the P-47D11, P-47D25, P-47M, P-38J, P-51B, P-51D, B-17G, B-24J.  Rather than fly a single plane type in this event, you will join a historical unit and fly the planes they did for each day.  See the Order of Battle in the writeup for a clear picture of who has what aircraft.

This scenario will be 7 total frames and for the first time will be ran during the evening on Saturday (US Time) rather than in the afternoon.

Please join us for the Battle Over Germany!

ROC is Lead CM for this event.

Show-Up Time is 9:30 pm Eastern Time on Saturday Evening US TIME in the Special Events II Arena.  The arena will be closed to admittance after that time.

The frames will run on the following dates.

January 29, 2011:  Coordination Frame "Target Berlin!"
Week off for Final Coordination
February 12, 2011: Frame 1
February 19, 2011: Frame 2
February 26, 2011: Frame 3
March 5, 2011: Frame 4
March 12, 2011: Frame 5
March 19, 2011: Frame 6

Registration will open soon.  Watch this space and the forums for the announcement.  We will be registering people by type.  Allied Fighter Pilots, Allied Bomber Pilots and Axis Fighter Pilots.  Please use the comment section
of the registration to indicate what unit you want to fly in and who you want to fly with.  Every effort will be made to honor this request, but there are no guarrantees.  The earlier you register the better.

A link to the rules writeup can be found at the bottom of this page.  http://www.ahevents.org/scenario-current-or-next.html (http://www.ahevents.org/scenario-current-or-next.html)

So why pick a time when very few, if any, Europeans can participate?

Scenarios have been held at 3pm US Eastern for years and years.  It's early for some, late for others.  This one time we have chosen to run a scenario later into the evening on the east coast.  This does bring in other time zones that were really unable to attend in the past, and put's a few others into late or extremely early time frames.

It's a one time modification, not a permanent change in scenario time slots.

I agree it will be great for those that have been unable to play because of the 3pm EST in the past.
But IMO it is strange to chose a "Battle over Germany" scenario theme, when there will be "no" Europeans playing.

Oh well ill wait for the next scenario.  :salute

Now now, play nice.  Roughly 15 years worth of scenarios and One Event is changed so other people can attend who couldn't before.  The world will not implode, it isn't a joke, it's One Time.

It's a trial run.  We are hoping to ramp up the number of events per year and want to expose as many people as possible to Scenarios.

There will be plenty of Saturday Afternoon Scenarios this year, there might be more Satruday Evening Events, there might even be weeknight events one of these days.
Heck we might even run one on Saturday Mornings US time at some future time.  Anyone remember the AirWarrior scenario which started at 7am Eastern on a Saturday and ran 12 hours?

Yep, that scenario is the reason I always do a scenario with an empty jug next to my desk, it makes a handy relief tube.

As I said in the other thread, I used to work 12 hours shifts Friday night to Saturday and I still made the events. I set my alarm, had black coffee and eggs when I woke up and still had a great time.

Excellent !

I am very sorry if the event time change will exclude some from flying this scenario.  For me it is the opposite.  I have never been able to fly the Saturday event as it was scheduled because I work on Saturdays.  The time change therfore allows my participation and I certainly appreciate it.  Frankly the FSO is the biggest draw for me in this game and this Team Scenario looks to be even more immersive.

Count me in !

I will be linking this on our squad page immediately for the rest of the Arabian Knights to consider participating.

Registraion will open at Noon Eastern Time on Sunday December 12, 2010.

Remember this is not a first come first serve registration like last time.  Someone will sort through the registrants and assign them.

So, be CLEAR on who you want to fly with be it a whole squadron or just a wingman buddy.

Then be clear on what unit you want to fly for.  Have a second choice on that as well.

You people requesting GROUP LEADER positions and coordinating others to fly with you, please make sure you at least have that second unit picked just in case.

Attention Battle Over Germany Participants.

It is our pleasure to announce the leadership of this upcoming event.  There was a great deal of interest in the command position, and although it was a difficult choice, a decision had to be made.  For various reasons, ability, desire, firm understanding of the level of enjoyment all participants are looking for, we present to you:

Allied Commanding Officer ~ Oneway

Axis Commanding Officer ~ AKKuya

May God have mercy on their souls, and friends and family remember them fondly 'cause they have got their hands full now  :D  :salute

Hey, we always found action!   :old:

I remember when you and I were flying back to Norway when a pair of higher ponies bounced us.  Jonah came back despite his critically low fuel situation to remove the enemy's E advantage and allow us to work together as a team to kill them both.  It was a great fight out there over the North Sea.  I also remember our group tasked with defending the entire Northern part of Norway achieving 100% success.  We found those sneaky Lancasters exactly when and where we thought they'd be thus zero bombs fell in our Area of Operations.  I had warned Bearkats in the frame prior as I escorted him out of Norway during the no fire period, that he'd die by the hands of II/JG5 109s in the next frame....and we made it happen.  So many great memories from The Final Battle Scenario, getting lost isn't one of them!   :furious

My only regret was BigRat and his cowardly RAF pilots no shows.   :neener:  We still had fun being scouts for our jet bomber friends though.

If anything, I dropped the ball in frame 2, where I failed to ensure all groups coordinated at maximum efficiency, thus we lost time and men, which also resulted in less ships sunk that frame.   :o

I still owe Kermit for one burnt Corsair :furious "now known as the burnt bacon incident" in the test frame.  I didn't like the paintjob on that one anyway and changed from then on to the lighter blue one that flew much better :lol.  "no shows" we were there, we just decided it was tough enough to deal with Spikes and his 234's of doom on their own, much less have to deal with their fighter cover as well :neener:

Just so everyone is aware, the General Forum is the absolute hangout for all the cool kids (  :D  ) but to make sure everyone gets there offers to help, lead and participate, the Battle Over Germany general forums are now open, and the Scenario Forums have a BOG Specific thread.

Not saying don't continue the discussions here, the more the merrier, just make sure you hit the formal forums as well.  This thing is too big to miss :)

Thank you all for the positive comments, the participation, and the support of this event.  We've always said around here, you get out of the game what you put into it.  We scenario type people have a unique opportunity to Create the game we wish to play, it honestly does not get any better than this :)

So why pick a time when very few, if any, Europeans can participate?

To avoid being gang banged by Many.

POOF I am OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This entire event is going to take a great deal of commitment, effort to work through minor and even major hurdles, and a tremendous amount of patience a plans are designed, submitted and worked through.

Sometimes the little things, early on, will determine if this is right for someone. Another way to handle this would have been "Can a CM help with registration, I'm having a problem."

These are the same options as the event progresses.  I need to be clear at the onset, leave the drama at the door, there are far more productive ways to handle very minor problems.

This event will not be geared towards those who simply don't want to participate or spend more than a moments worth of effort.

You'd be surprised how much effort will be put into "Hey, I need a hand" but the "I Quit" type of reaction will get nothing more than "Ok, by."

Too many things to get done, we won't be spending an ounce of time trying to get "I Quit" back into it.

Please don't mistake this for a discussion topic of how best to treat people, again, I can't be more clear than this.  The event is built for a positive, and sometimes grueling amount of effort. That is the effort that get's attention and reward and unlimited amount of effort to try and solve problems.

It's a registration system, anyone who is in here having problems registering are clearly trying to get in, and Will Get In, of course, that will only work with the above type of positive and proactive effort, which will translate into a good player in the middle of the event when something extremely minor doesn't go as expected and they work through that as well instead of bail out leaving their team mates hanging.

We are not responsible for the Players Information they provide while registering.  We can, of course, go into the system and figure it out for you, but not simply based on a post in here with incomplete and vague questions.  Registration is Instant, providing The Player Input His Correct Email Address.  You'd be surprised how many times a Typo messed something up.  Remember, We Don't Enter That Information :)  Be sure you are right before you rail on us, we are here to help, but only if we are provided an opportunity to help, and you give us a reason to want to.  Demands and Temper Tantrums do not work well on us.  Things happen, we fix them and move on.

Again, might as well get this out in front early on.

Thndregg, it can get interesting sometimes lol  that is true.

Usually we have to go in and make sure the ID or email wasn't a typo, or the original email that was used to register was changed and players forgot, or sometimes it is simply that 200 people are hammering the site and a bit or byte got dropped as the server horked up a hairball :)  We'll get it working for you, Enjoy!  And thanks understanding and working through it.

BigRat, we will be sending regular reports to the side CO's and they will register the players.  Should be a daily export.  Both sides will have CMs to help out with forum access also, so there should not be a delay of more than a day.

Check the "Spam" folder for your emails and make sure you don't have your settings set to delete spam immediately.

If that doesn't solve it, go enjoy your day, I have forwarded everything to the AHEvents guys and we will get this sorted out.  You will have a bomber spot even if I have to delete a spot to hold it for you.

Thanks for your interest in the event.

III/JG27 is recruiting Luftwaffe pilots.  This is going to be a blast folks.  You need to be able to commit to all 7 frames.  You need to be able to follow orders.  Everything else I will help you with.  PM me if you are interested.

This is a fantastic way to keep the game fresh.  If you have never done anything like this you may find out why many of us believe the main arenas are just practice for these scenarios.   :salute

Amen!   :aok

Folks, if you have never flown in a limited-lives Scenario, you have no idea what kind of white-knuckle adrenaline rushes you are missing!  Personally, my favorite is a head-on slashing attack through a huge bomber stream at some icy altitude, side-by-side with dozens of Kameraden.  But that's just me.

Please also remember how much time, effort and work the individual CO's put into these scenarios. Keep your comments confined to the correct side forum. Nothing ruins a good scenario quicker (imo) than arguing both amongst yourselves and with the opposing side.

Congrats Oneway, Akkuya - I look forward to flying with and against you both.

Actually the LW has the advanatage.  Once an allied fighter goes down he can't get back in a timely manner.  The LW can re-up with the enemy overhead
For the LW it gets easier their second sortie.  For the Allies it's carrying on with what we have left.

i registerd for the event under an allied FP. i wanted to fly the 17 but no open slots :cry. Or could they change because of demand? I'm, in a squad of around ten guys, we where all thinking about joining, but most of them prefer bombers. could the max numbers change? Or are we just poop out of luck?

Sorry, numbers won't be changing, but I encourage you to talk to Oneway, the CO of the Allied side and make yourself available.  There are always going to be no shows, or perhaps an opportunity to try something radically new.
Oneway, if he knows your preference, may want to have you as a backup for missing bomber jocks.  His call completely, but talk to him directly.

I invite you and your squad to fly german fighters with III/JG27 this scenario sir.  There will be more, maybe next time you will get allied buffs to fly but please do not let
the inability to fly your first choice ride discourage you from participating.  Axis fighters need alot more pilots, please join us and contribute to balanced and fair gameplay.
