Title: Tiny small request
Post by: VFCBaxter on December 05, 2010, 01:42:35 AM
I got an odd shaped house block and I have 7 neighbours. Couple of Asians, and the rest caucasians. No problems with any of them except..... My missus wanted to get an inground pool to replace the dying above ground one we had. I told her we should put it out the back yard as there is a huge gum tree hanging over the fence where the side yard is. She who must be obeyed got her way and now I spend an hour or so each day getting leaves out of the pool and sweeping the yard etc after work. I was wondering .... could you nice AH2 people just set up one small bombing mission for me if I supply the target coordinates (and google earth picture) I mean, these people are tree hugging hippies, Matriarchs name is Athena and the kids are sunbeam and moonstone .... is that enough justification for you ;)

I don't know the rules in Australia but here anything that is hanging over your property you can cut. I say take a chainsaw to that thing. :aok

You are both right of course. I have cut down as far up as I can reach but this thing is about 50 ft tall so I am going to have to work out how to saw off the higher branches. Gum trees are notoriously shallow rooted and they often fall down in a strong wind. Why they chose to plant one right on the boundary I will never know but it will be interesting to see which way and on whose house it falls when it comes down.

cut that mother down! I hate raking leaves especially when the tree is evergreen and does it all year!

My neighbor had (note the past tense) a crud I can't remember the name of the thing but it crapped white flower petals into my pool on a daily basis.  I asked nicely if they would trim it back, no response, then I stated pointedly that it was causing me real problems and could they PLEASE trim it, no response.  So I took my trusty hedge trimmer and evened that sucker up with my fence.  The did NOT like that.  Last summer same thing.  Three requests and no response.  Soooooo I trimmed it back again and, for some reason not known, the poor tree died soon thereafter.  Pity really.

Being a former lawn and landscape worker I can tell you it will fall whichever way the most weight is left. If you trim the branches on your side back, that leaves the bulk of the weight on their side and it should go that way. However if a strong enough wind blows your way, all bets are off. Just my $.02 from previous experience.

My suggestion was drill hole, insert bleach, but this works also.  :rofl

At my first house there was a eucalyptus tree (gum tree) planted way too close to the house by the previous owner. I cut the darn thing down and waited for the stump top dry out. It grew back.

I sliced open the trunk and put rock salt in the cuts and around the outer payers of bark. It grew back.

I sliced up the stump some more and put in a mix of undiluted and regular strength round up plant killer including spraying every leaf. It grew back.

I made a fire around the stump and burned the heck out of it. It grew back.

Finally I got a divorce and gave the ex the tree. Problem solved.

BTW that is a true story. I hate those damn trees now.

There is a small exhaust port in the tree, find it, and fire your lasers into it. After, you will have 10 seconds to get the fudge out of there before the neighbors catch you and call the cops.

The electric fences aren't down... IT'S A TRAP!!!

In cali as far as I know if anything goes over on your property you can legally cut it.  We have big trees in our back yard and they go over the fence, they cut ours and we cut theirs.

same here where i live the neighbors apple trees Branch's hung really far over into a easement way, after talking to him he was fine with cutting them back, if I'm not mistaken the person who owns the trees is responsible from letting them intrude to far onto your property more-so if it's creating a mess, they also make a fine mesh 1/4" x 1/4" squares you can stretch over the pool while not in use keeps all the leaves out and when you pull it off it brings all the leaves with it, I've seen a couple people use this idea works on above ground and in ground pools, they also have roll out pool covers either electric or manual roll

Common saying in Australia, along with "Minister for War and Finance."

My wife is a Rumpole fan, she started off with them on her talking books but then she had me get all the TV seasons for her.

I forgot to add the tree will start to look sick and diseased.  Then have a tree removal company come out to inspect it.  They will advise removal.  Split the cost with your neighbor.  Poof   ;)

Tell your neighbors they are welcome to use your pool when you arent home, but they have to keep the pool clean of leaves. Of course if your luck is like mine, Moonbeam would find a way to drown and then Athena would sue ya silly.
